The A&D FX-2000i laboratory balance is especially useful when samples, containers or assemblies are too heavy for a few-hundred-gram balance but 0.01 g resolution is still valuable for batching, production and quality control.

Laboratory sample preparation
The 2200 g capacity is large enough for many beakers, bottles, trays and sample containers while 0.01 g readability supports routine laboratory preparation and comparison. This makes the FX-2000i useful for larger sample masses that do not need milligram resolution. The 150 mm pan provides more usable support area than the smaller FX-300i. Keep the sample centered and avoid containers large enough to touch the housing or create leverage beyond the pan.
Batching and formulation
For small production batches, 0.01 g readability can provide much better addition control than a conventional bench scale. Typical examples include adhesives, coatings, pigments, flavor systems, laboratory chemicals, research blends and specialty materials. Tare the container and add components in a defined order. If a batch approaches capacity, use a lighter container or split the batch rather than operating near overload. Remember that a 0.01 g display does not guarantee every process can control to ±0.01 g; process tolerance should be wider than the complete measurement uncertainty.
Production sampling and inspection
Production teams can use the FX-2000i to measure machined components, molded parts, subassemblies, filled containers and incoming samples. Approximately one-second stabilization supports fast repeated checks. Comparator limits can flag low, acceptable and high results, while statistical calculation can summarize a series of measurements. For a robust production method, define how often a known verification weight is checked and what happens when the balance fails that check.
Parts counting and kitting
ACAI counting can help with bolts, hardware, connectors, fittings and other parts whose unit mass is comfortably above the balance’s effective counting threshold. Establish a representative sample, then add more pieces so the average unit weight can improve. For expensive inventory, manually verify several counted lots before using the balance for stock adjustments. Natural variation in plated or molded parts can create more counting uncertainty than the display resolution suggests.
Packaging and fill development
The FX-2000i can compare package tare, component sets, product fill and prototype materials during packaging development. A 0.01 g division is useful for small fill differences, moisture changes and material reductions. For high-speed production checkweighing, a dedicated checkweigher may be more appropriate; the FX-2000i is best suited to bench verification, setup and offline sampling rather than conveyor-speed dynamic weighing.
Data capture and quality records
Standard RS-232C allows straightforward connection to a data logger, computer or printer, and optional USB, Ethernet or Bluetooth paths can match other workflows. Automated capture reduces typing mistakes and supports trending, but the software should also record sample identity, lot, operator and date. For regulated work, validate the data path and protect electronic records according to the applicable quality requirements.
Statistical calculation for process development
A&D’s statistical calculation function can summarize repeated measurements, helping engineers and technicians evaluate variation during setup or process studies. Use representative samples and interpret the statistics in the context of the process. A small standard deviation from ten identical samples does not prove a process is capable over weeks of production; the balance makes calculations easier, but sound sampling design is still required.
Choosing between FX-2000i and a lower-capacity milligram balance
Choose FX-2000i when capacity up to 2200 g matters more than 0.001 g readability. Choose a model such as FX-300i when most samples are below 320 g and milligram resolution is genuinely useful. A larger capacity with unnecessarily fine resolution can cost more and become more sensitive to environment; a smaller balance can be overloaded by routine containers. Start with the heaviest realistic tare-plus-sample load and the smallest process change that must be resolved.
FAQ
Is 2200 g enough for batching?
For many small batches, yes. Include the container tare in the capacity calculation.
Can it replace a milligram balance?
Only if 0.01 g readability is adequate. It does not provide the 0.001 g readability of FX-300i or EJ-123.
Is it good for production QC?
Yes for bench-based sampling, comparator checks and recorded measurements within its capacity and environmental limits.
Can it connect to a network?
A&D offers an optional Ethernet interface for the FX-i platform. Confirm accessory compatibility before ordering because some optional boards are mutually exclusive.
Can it be used for legal-for-trade production sales?
The non-N FX-2000i should not be assumed legal for trade. MNM identifies the N-suffix FX-2000iN as the NTEP/legal-for-trade variant.
