A&D GC-30K is a 30 kg / 60 lb smart counting scale for larger parts, bins and warehouse lots. Direct readability is 5 g / 0.01 lb, while A&D lists 1 g normal and 0.05 g fine-mode minimum unit weights for counting. The scale adds AIS, ACAI, 1,000 internal item records, MicroSD expansion, WinCT-Counting, standard RS-232C and external-scale connectivity, making it more of an inventory workstation than a simple weight-to-count converter.

High-capacity local counting
The 30 kg capacity suits bearings, fittings, machined components, larger fasteners and heavy bins. All GC models use a 300 × 210 mm pan, so check the physical footprint of the container as well as its weight. Direct 5 g readability is appropriate for larger items and samples; for very light parts, use more sample pieces or connect a more sensitive balance rather than expecting a 30 kg scale to behave like a precision laboratory balance.
Fine-mode 0.05 g unit weight explained
Fine mode can store/calculate an average unit weight down to 0.05 g even though the direct display changes in 5 g steps. That is possible because a large group is weighed and divided by a known piece count. A 100-piece sample at 0.05 g each is only 5 g—one display division—so practical accuracy near the threshold may require a much larger sample or an external high-resolution balance. Treat the minimum as an algorithmic capability, not a promise that every 0.05 g part can be counted accurately under all conditions.
AIS, ACAI and database management
AIS searches stored data to identify a desired unit weight and ACAI refines average unit weight from additional samples. The 1,000-item internal database plus MicroSD makes GC-30K practical for high-SKU warehouses. Use controlled item codes and periodically verify stored unit weights against current physical stock; supplier and material changes can create count error even when the scale is perfectly calibrated.
RS-232C, WinCT and industrial-base expansion
Standard RS-232C supports PC/printer connections and can digitally link to other A&D scales. WinCT-Counting manages memory and commands, while AD-8561 Multi-Interfaces extend USB/terminal connections. A&D specifically promotes pairing GC with industrial SB bases for larger bins and batches. Calibrate and verify the connected base separately and test a known quantity before using the multi-scale system for inventory decisions.
Portable power and detachable display
GC can run from AC or USB/mobile-battery power, and the display unit detaches from the weighing base. This is useful around large bins and on cycle-count carts. Stop the cart or workstation on a stable surface before weighing; portable operation does not change the need for a stable load and zero verification.
Calibration and trade status
MNM lists external calibration. Verify ordinary weight with suitable references after calibration and after significant relocation. A&D’s current U.S. GC product page does not identify GC-30K as an NTEP/legal-for-trade model. It is designed for internal counting, checkweighing and inventory; use a certified transaction scale if law requires legal-for-trade weighing.
