A&D SE-30KAM counting setup is most useful when the scale is treated as a process tool rather than only a weight display. The SE platform can support piece counting, comparator/checkweighing, accumulation-oriented workflows, and optional data interfaces, but the correct setup depends on whether the priority is wet-area protection, wired data transfer, or portable operation.
Set Up the Scale Mechanically First
Before configuring counting or interfaces, make sure the scale is mechanically correct. It should sit on a rigid surface, the leveling feet should be adjusted, the pan should be centered and free, and no wall, cable, hose, box, or debris should touch the live platform. Electronic settings cannot compensate for a second force path around the load cell.
Piece Counting Workflow
Counting estimates quantity by dividing net weight by a learned unit weight. Use a representative sample and increase sample size when parts have small differences or when each individual part is light compared with the scale division. Keep the container tared consistently. If parts vary because of moisture, coating, machining tolerance, or mixed revisions, a counting scale can only be as accurate as the unit-weight assumption.
Checkweighing and Comparator Use
Comparator functions are valuable for target-fill and pass/fail processes. Establish the lower and upper limits from the actual process specification, not from the scale’s readability. A 0.01 lb display does not mean every process should be controlled to ±0.01 lb. Packaging variation, product movement, environmental stability, and the required tolerance determine practical limits.
Quick USB Option
A&D lists SCE-02 Quick USB for the SE series. This is useful where operators need to move stable weight data into a PC workflow without building a complex serial integration. The major purchasing caveat is environmental: A&D states that the SE series is not IP68 compliant with SCE-02 installed. If the station is regularly washed down, a sealed manual workflow or another connectivity strategy may be more appropriate.
RS-232C and Comparator Relay Option
SCE-03 adds RS-232C and comparator relay capability. Serial communication is useful for printers, data collection systems, terminals, and custom applications that expect conventional serial weight strings or commands. Relay outputs can be useful for external pass/fail indicators or control logic when used within their electrical ratings. SCE-03 also removes the standard IP68 compliance, and A&D states SCE-02 and SCE-03 cannot be used together.
Bluetooth Option
A&D also lists the SCE-27 Bluetooth interface in the current SE family. Wireless data can reduce cable-management problems on mobile workstations. Before standardizing on it, confirm the receiving software, device compatibility, distance, interference environment, and company IT policy. Wireless availability is not the same as guaranteed compatibility with every ERP, WMS, app, or spreadsheet workflow.
Battery-Powered Stations
The six-D-battery design is useful for carts, temporary QC points, dock staging, and wet rooms where running a power cord is undesirable. For consistent operation, replace batteries as a set, use a quality chemistry appropriate to the environment, and investigate repeated low-voltage indications instead of assuming the weighing sensor is at fault.
Data Quality Before Data Transfer
A connected scale can transmit bad data just as efficiently as good data. Before integrating, define when a reading is accepted: stable only, manual keypress, automatic event, or comparator condition. Decide whether tare, units, gross/net status, part count, and time stamps are stored by the scale, receiving software, or operator procedure. Test error states such as overload, unstable load, disconnected cable, and low battery so the receiving system does not silently treat an invalid record as a valid weight.
