A&D GF-300P calibration uses an external mass, so the accuracy of the adjustment depends on the environment, the reference weight and the setup being correct before calibration begins. On a 0.001 g display balance, drafts, vibration, static and temperature can create an apparent calibration problem even when the weighing mechanism is healthy.

Prepare the balance first

Place the GF-300P on a rigid, level bench away from vents and vibration. Make sure the pan and surrounding area are clean, the balance is level and nothing touches the pan. Allow adequate stabilization after moving or powering the unit. Use clean, appropriate reference weights whose uncertainty supports the verification you are trying to perform.

Verification before adjustment

Record unloaded zero, apply a known mass, remove it and confirm return to zero. Repeat the same mass several times to check repeatability. Check additional masses across the normal working range. If the balance is consistent and within your acceptance limits, there may be no reason to change calibration.

External span calibration

Follow the A&D instruction manual for the delivered GF-300P firmware and approved configuration to enter external calibration, establish zero and apply the requested calibration mass. Handle weights with appropriate tools and avoid warming them by hand. Once calibration finishes, never stop at the single calibration point—run independent verification again.

Post-calibration checks

Check zero, repeatability and multiple loads across the working range. If the balance is used for pharmacy legal-for-trade work, follow the applicable sealing, service and weights-and-measures procedures. Calibration should not be used to bypass an inspection or broken seal requirement.

Understanding a one-digit difference

The GF-300P display division is 0.001 g, so a one-digit change is 1 mg. That does not mean the total measurement uncertainty is 1 mg, and it does not change the 0.01 g legal verification interval documented for approved pharmacy use. Evaluate repeatability and the full process rather than equating one display digit with guaranteed accuracy.

Troubleshooting failed verification

If results are unstable, check drafts, HVAC cycles, vibration, static electricity, material evaporation, a dirty pan, bench movement and temperature differences between the test weight and room. If results are stable but consistently offset, confirm the reference weight and perform the documented calibration. If errors vary by load, seek qualified service rather than repeatedly forcing span adjustments.

Calibration records

For quality systems, record date, model, serial number, reference-weight IDs, as-found results, any adjustment, as-left results and the person performing the work. A&D supports GLP/GMP/ISO-oriented data output, which can help structure records when the surrounding process has been validated.

FAQ

Does GF-300P have an internal calibration weight?

No. GF-300P is an external-calibration model.

Can I use coins or production parts to calibrate it?

Not for controlled calibration. Use suitable reference masses with known values and uncertainty.

Why does the last digit move?

At 1 mg display resolution, normal drafts, vibration, static or temperature effects can move the last digit. Improve the environment before adjusting the balance.

Should I calibrate every day?

Use a risk-based schedule. Daily or shift verification with known masses may be appropriate even when full calibration is less frequent.

What if only high loads are wrong?

A load-dependent error can indicate nonlinearity, mechanical or sensor issues, reference-weight problems or an incorrect calibration. Multi-point testing is needed to separate these causes.

Can I break a seal to recalibrate a trade balance?

Follow local weights-and-measures and service requirements. Unauthorized adjustment of a sealed commercial device may invalidate its approved status.
