How to Calibrate an MNM Four 500 lb Floor Scale Kit: Corner Trim, Zero & Span

A four-cell platform scale should be corner-balanced before final zero and span calibration. The goal is for the same load to produce nearly the same reading at all four load-cell locations. Only after the mechanical system and junction-box balance are correct should the indicator be calibrated to a known load.

Level and free the platform

Confirm all four feet are carrying load, the frame is not rocking, ramps or surrounding structures are not touching the live deck, and nothing is trapped beneath the platform. Check that spacers and cell mounts are installed consistently. On a small bench or parts platform, even a cable pulling on the frame can create a meaningful error.

Verify wiring before trim

Use the MNM color code: red +Exc, black -Exc, green +Sig and white -Sig. Inspect the junction box for loose terminals or moisture and verify every cell responds in the same polarity. If one corner is far outside the others, troubleshoot the cell, cable or mount before adjusting the trim potentiometer.

Corner test and junction-box trim

Place the same suitable test load over or near each corner in a repeatable sequence. Record the readings. Adjust the junction-box trim according to the box manufacturer’s instructions and repeat the sequence until the corners agree within the intended tolerance. Zero and span calibration

After corner balance, unload the platform, let it settle and perform zero calibration using the exact connected indicator. Then apply a known test load and complete span calibration. Verify at several points and recheck the corners. On a compact platform, a certified weight placed near each cell can be practical for corner work. Keep test weights within safe handling limits and never exceed the mechanical capacity of the scale.

After replacing one load cell

Do not assume the previous trim remains correct. Verify wiring, inspect the new cell’s seating, repeat the four-corner test, trim as needed and then verify zero/span. Even cells with the same nominal capacity and output tolerance can contribute slightly differently to the summed signal.
