The IDS-672-25K-CT 25,000 lb center-thread pancake load cell is a useful format when a test fixture needs substantial capacity without the height of an S-beam or conventional tension link. Its compact disk shape can be integrated into presses, component fixtures and structural reaction points, while the center-thread feature provides a defined mechanical connection for appropriately designed adapters.
Hydraulic Press Testing
A direct load cell can measure press force at the workpiece rather than estimating output solely from hydraulic pressure. This is useful for checking press setup, comparing tooling changes, monitoring maximum force during a controlled operation or developing a process window. Keep the load centered and use rigid adapters that do not tilt as the ram travels.
Bearing, Bushing and Press-Fit Studies
Press-fit components can be compared by insertion force, removal force or maximum compression force. If the engineering question involves force versus travel, pair the load-cell signal with an independent displacement sensor. A stable fixture and consistent loading speed are necessary when comparing multiple parts because friction and alignment can dominate the result.
Structural Reaction Fixtures
In a test frame, a low-profile cell can measure reaction at a jack, brace, column or support. The frame should be designed so horizontal force, bending and eccentricity are handled by the structure rather than by the sensor. At 25,000 lb, the energy stored in a loaded frame can be significant, so guarding and controlled loading are part of the fixture design—not optional accessories.
Machinery and Actuator Validation
Machine builders can use the sensor to characterize actuator thrust, clamp force, assembly load or mechanical stops. Peak force can be especially important when a mechanism has breakaway friction. Use electronics with an appropriate sample rate if the event is fast; a slowly updating weight indicator may miss short peaks even if its static calibration is accurate.
Compression vs. Tension Use
The MNM listing calls the product pancake-style tension/compression and identifies a center-thread model. The exact hardware required to apply safe tension is not published on the page. For tension fixtures, confirm the manufacturer-approved attachment method, thread details and force direction before designing around the sensor. Do not assume a compression platen setup can simply be reversed.
Calibration in a Test Stand
Calibrate the sensor in the same mechanical configuration used for testing whenever possible. A different load button, adapter or platen can change force distribution. Establish zero, apply traceable known force, set span and verify several points. Recheck after moving the sensor to a new fixture.
