MNM Scales 10,000 lb Low-Profile Compression Scale Calibration Guide: OP-901 Zero & Span

The MNM Scales 10,000 lb low-profile compression scale calibration procedure uses the OP-901 indicator's setup menu to establish the no-load zero and a known-load span point. With compression systems, the mechanical setup matters just as much as the electronic steps: the disk load cell needs centered, flat, axial loading so the reference force reaches the sensor without rocking or edge loading.

OP-901 Calibration Menu Basics

The official OP-901 manual identifies C01 for unit selection, C02 for decimal position, C03 for division/gradation, C04 for maximum capacity, C05 for zero calibration and C06 for span calibration. Before changing these parameters, record the existing configuration. Capacity, decimal position and division must match the intended 10,000 lb x 0.5 lb setup before you establish the span.

Zero Calibration (C05)

Remove the test load while leaving the normal load plate or permanent fixture components in their intended calibration condition. Make sure the compression cell is not trapped under residual force. Enter the setup menu, navigate to C05 and capture the stable no-load condition as zero. If the raw zero is unstable, correct the fixture or electrical problem first rather than storing a moving baseline.

Span Calibration (C06)

Place a known compression reference centrally over the load cell and apply it gradually. In C06, enter the actual known reference value and complete the span operation according to the OP-901 manual. Remove the load and confirm return-to-zero. Reapply the same reference at least three times and check a second point if possible. For press applications, an independently calibrated proving device or traceable force standard can be more practical than stacking very large dead weights.
