The MNM Scales 5,000 lb load cell for towing, winch and recovery pull-force testing gives technicians a direct way to measure line force in a controlled setup instead of estimating pull from a winch rating, vehicle mass or electrical current. What a Pull-Force Test Can Tell You

For comparison work, clear the peak between tests and keep the same attachment points, line angle, pulley arrangement and loading rate.

Building a Better Inline Test Setup
Place the S-beam where all test force travels through it axially. Use rated adapters that allow alignment rather than forcing the sensor sideways. Secure the test anchor and pulling equipment to structures rated beyond the intended force, create an exclusion zone around the tensioned line and avoid shock loading. A smooth pull produces much more useful data than a jerking or snatching event because shock can create a transient load far above the steady force you intended to study.
Useful Tests for Towing and Recovery Shops
Examples include a before/after winch-service pull comparison, line-force measurement at different drum layers, testing a shop-built mount or pulley fixture, measuring the force required to move a rolling vehicle on a controlled surface, comparing mechanical advantage arrangements, or verifying that a powered actuator or recovery device produces repeatable output. The sensor is best used as instrumentation in a controlled test—not installed in an uncontrolled live recovery where shock, side load and unpredictable vehicle movement dominate.

RS232 and Test Documentation
The LP7515 includes RS232 output, which can be useful if a shop wants a computer or compatible device to capture readings rather than relying only on handwritten notes. A good record includes date, test objective, fixture geometry, hardware used, environmental conditions, maximum force, steady force if relevant and any unusual behavior.
