The MNM Scales Crane-20k 20,000 lb load cell calibration process is built around two fundamentals: establish a true unloaded zero, then teach the LP7515 indicator what a known applied force represents. A good calibration also verifies alignment, repeatability, return-to-zero and performance at more than one point across the working range.

When Should the Crane-20k Be Calibrated?
Recheck calibration after a new installation, indicator replacement, load-cell replacement, connector or cable repair, a significant overload event, a major temperature/environment change, or whenever a known reference load no longer reads correctly. Periodic verification is also useful for test stands and pull-force systems where trend data matters.
Before You Enter Calibration
Mount the S-beam so force travels through its primary axis without side load or twisting. Let the electronics stabilize, remove all test force, inspect threaded fittings and cable connections, and select a known reference load or traceable force standard appropriate for the portion of the 20,000 lb range you actually need to verify. The reference does not have to equal full capacity, but a larger well-controlled reference generally gives a stronger span check than a very small load.
Zero and Span Calibration Workflow
Start with the system completely unloaded and stable, then establish the indicator's zero reference. Next apply the known load smoothly and allow the reading to settle. In the LP7515 setup/calibration menu, enter the known reference value as the span point and save the calibration. Remove the load and confirm the display returns to zero. Reapply the same reference at least twice to confirm repeatability, then check an additional load point if available. If readings are consistently high or low by a similar percentage, span is the first setting to investigate; if zero shifts after unloading, inspect mechanics, binding and cable condition before recalibrating again.

Verification After Calibration
A calibration is not finished when one number matches. Verify zero with the fixture relaxed, apply the reference load several times, approach the same load from increasing and decreasing force where practical, and compare readings at low, middle and higher points in the intended working range. Peak Hold should also be checked separately by applying a controlled rising force and confirming the retained peak agrees with the live reading reached during the test.
Why a Calibrated Load Cell Can Still Read Wrong
Common causes include side loading, a fixture that binds, damaged or loose signal wiring, moisture in a connector, a mechanical zero load that changed, insufficient warm-up/stabilization, or a reference load that is not actually known. Calibration corrects the relationship between electrical signal and displayed force; it cannot compensate for a mechanically poor load path.
