IDS-672-3K-CT Center-Thread vs Standard Pancake Load Cell: Replacement & OEM Guide

Center-thread and standard pancake load cells may look similar in photos, but the mechanical interface can make them very different replacement choices. The IDS-672-3K-CT is specifically identified by MNM as a 3,000 lb center-thread model. That thread can be useful for attaching an axial adapter, but it also means thread size, engagement and load direction become critical compatibility items.

Center-Thread Pancake: Main Advantages

A center-thread version can provide a defined attachment point for a rod, eye adapter or fixture component while preserving low overall height. This can simplify custom force stands and may support tension/compression configurations when the exact sensor design and hardware permit. It is especially useful when the fixture cannot simply press on a flat disk surface.

Standard Pancake: Main Advantages

A standard compression-oriented pancake can be simpler when force is introduced through a platen or load button and no threaded axial attachment is needed. Fewer threaded adapters can reduce stack height and possible looseness. The best geometry therefore depends on the fixture, not on which style is universally “better.”

Replacement Dimensions to Compare

Compare overall diameter, height, mounting-hole pattern, bolt circle, center-thread diameter and pitch, thread depth, cable exit position and the geometry of the loaded surfaces. The MNM public listing does not provide those dimensions, so request or measure them before machining a replacement adapter.

Electrical Compatibility to Compare

Match rated output, bridge resistance, excitation limits, wiring/pinout and any sense leads or shielding. A mechanically perfect replacement can still be wrong for an existing amplifier if the sensitivity or excitation range differs. MNM’s public IDS-672-3K-CT page does not publish these values, so verify exact documentation instead of copying them from another capacity.

Force Direction and Side Load

The presence of a center thread does not mean the sensor can tolerate bending, twisting or arbitrary tension hardware. The fixture should transfer force along the intended sensor axis. Use the manufacturer-approved attachment method and keep torque from threaded adapters out of the sensing body as much as practical.

Recalibration After Replacement

Every sensor swap requires zero/span recalibration or at minimum a full verification against traceable force. Two cells with the same model number still have individual zero and sensitivity tolerances. Calibrate in the completed fixture and verify several points across the actual working range.
