A&D HL-200i calibration uses an external reference, while reliable daily results depend on a stable dry surface, fresh batteries and correct pan installation. The long battery life reduces maintenance but does not eliminate verification after transport or impact.

External calibration and verification
Set the scale on a rigid level surface and let it acclimate. Follow A&D’s calibration procedure with an appropriate known reference. Verify zero and an independent mass afterward, then repeat a typical load. Investigate static, drafts and pan contact before recalibrating repeatedly.
Batteries and power
Replace all four AA cells together and observe polarity. Approximately 1,000 hours is the alkaline estimate at 20°C with sleep mode. Remove batteries during long storage. The optional adapter supports fixed dry operation; use only the specified supply.
Optional pan and case
Install the optional stainless pan correctly and verify zero afterward. It improves the weighing surface but does not provide washdown protection. Store the scale clean and dry in the optional carrying case without pressure on the pan. Check performance after travel.
Troubleshooting
Drift commonly comes from vibration, static, airflow or temperature. Poor zero return may be debris or pan contact. An overload warning requires immediate load removal. If known references remain wrong after stabilization, recalibrate or arrange service. Do not confuse the carat unit with piece counting when interpreting the display.
