Contact MNM Scales at (832) 290-3120 or mnmscales@yahoo.com before ordering a replacement if you need help comparing dimensions, wiring, sensitivity or approval requirements.
Replacing a 4,000 lb stainless shear beam should be a specification-matching exercise, not a visual guess. MNM publishes a useful interchange list for its 4K stainless package: Artech SS30310, Celtron SQB SS, HBM B35, Revere 9123, Rice Lake RL35023S, Rice Lake RL39123, Sensortronics 65023SS and Coti Global CG-23SS. These family names are valuable search terms for service technicians, but a model-family interchange still requires capacity, dimensions, electrical output, resistance, wiring and approval verification for the exact scale.
1. Match capacity and mechanical envelope
The replacement must be appropriate for the 4,000 lb cell position and the finished scale design. Compare body length/width/height, mounting-hole pattern, mounting-hole diameter, load-introduction thread or foot, spacer requirements and cable exit direction. Even a few millimeters of difference can alter platform height or introduce side loading. If one cell sits higher than the other three after replacement, corner accuracy may become impossible to trim properly.
2. Match electrical sensitivity and bridge resistance
MNM’s listed 4K stainless sensor output is 3.00 ±0.015 mV/V with 385 ±5-ohm input resistance and 350 ±3-ohm output resistance. A four-cell scale is easiest to balance when the replacement behaves similarly to the remaining cells. A cell with significantly different mV/V sensitivity may force the junction-box trim toward its limit. Resistance differences also affect excitation loading and diagnostics. Compare exact datasheets rather than assuming every 350-ohm beam is equivalent.
3. Confirm wiring functions
MNM lists red +Exc, black -Exc, green +Sig and white -Sig. Other manufacturers may use different colors. Map wire function to wire function rather than color to color. If the replacement has sense wires or a shield/drain arrangement not present on the original, follow the indicator/junction-box requirements instead of cutting or tying conductors arbitrarily.
4. Environmental sealing and materials
If the original scale was chosen for wet or corrosive service, keep stainless construction and appropriate sealing in the replacement. A physically compatible alloy-steel beam may work electrically but reduce corrosion resistance. Conversely, stainless cell bodies do not automatically make an old junction box or cable splice washdown-ready. Inspect the whole signal path when water intrusion caused the original failure.
5. NTEP / Legal-for-Trade compatibility
If the scale is Legal for Trade, preserve the approved configuration. The replacement cell must satisfy the device approval and service rules applicable to that platform. A published interchange list is useful, but local commercial-scale requirements, seals and reinspection can still apply. Contact a qualified scale service provider when the device is used for regulated transactions.
6. Recalibrate after replacement
After installation, verify the new cell responds with correct polarity, compare all four corners, adjust the junction-box trim where necessary, set zero and perform span calibration with a known load. Then repeat corner tests. A replacement is not complete when the display merely turns on; the scale must show the same load consistently across the platform.
Published interchange families at a glance
Celtron SQB SS: widely searched stainless single-ended shear-beam family. Rice Lake RL35023S / RL39123: common replacement searches in floor/platform service. Sensortronics 65023SS: another established stainless beam family. Revere 9123: common interchange query. HBM B35, Artech SS30310 and Coti Global CG-23SS are also listed by MNM. Always confirm the exact capacity/version because these families can include multiple ratings and variants.
