NTEP Legal for Trade

NTEP is a certificate on a model, not on the serial number sitting on your floor. Legal for trade means you use the scale in a commercial transaction — selling produce, shipping billed by weight, paying for scrap, compounding a prescription sold by weight. Buying an NTEP scale and plugging it in is not the same as placing it in service.

All Scales USA in Cypress, TX lists NTEP benches, platforms, washdown food scales, shipping scales, and NTEP load cells. Pair the certificate with the job: a washdown food bench is not a pharmacy GF-P, and a process HW-200KC is not legal for trade. After you know you need NTEP, open the type leaf: Bench, Floor, Washdown, Shipping & postal, or Pharmacy.

How to choose an NTEP scale

Read the product page for “NTEP (this SKU)” — not the series name. HW-C process benches on the bench leaf are not NTEP; HV-C/CP and many FG-N / SK-WP / Torrey EQB-W SKUs are. Confirm Class III vs IIIL and the Certificate of Conformance family if a weights-and-measures inspector will see it. Capacity and increment still have to fit the job; an NTEP 0.1 lb floor scale is the wrong tool for a 2 lb portion. Place-in-service and Texas Department of Agriculture questions belong on the phone or the calibration page — do not treat this gallery as a license.
