A&D BA-125DTE Semi-Micro Balance Guide: 51/120 g Dual Range

A&D BA-125DTE at a glance

The A&D BA-125DTE is a dual-range semi-micro balance for laboratories that need 0.01 mg readability for smaller loads but also want a higher-capacity 0.1 mg range. You may also see it written as A and D BA-125DTE, A&D BA125DTE, BA 125DTE, BA-125 DTE or Borealis BA-T semi-micro balance. These names refer to the same model, not separate instruments.

Core specifications that matter

A&D specifies a 51 g precision range with 0.01 mg readability and a 120 g standard range with 0.1 mg readability. The balance uses an 85 mm diameter pan, typical stabilization times of about 7 seconds in the precision range and 3 seconds in the standard range, and automatic internal self-calibration. The BA-T platform also provides a 5-inch color touch screen, RS-232 and USB connectivity, two external-input connections, an external ionizer and sensor-operated automatic breeze-break doors.

Readability is the smallest displayed increment; it is not automatically the uncertainty or minimum sample weight. At 0.01 mg, air movement, vibration, static electricity, temperature changes, sample evaporation and handling technique can all move the result. A suitable bench, stable room, clean chamber and validated weighing method are part of the measurement system.

How the 51/120 g smart range works

The BA-125DTE automatically uses the finer 0.01 mg interval within its precision range. When the gross load exceeds that range, it changes to the 0.1 mg interval so the user can weigh up to 120 g. Re-zeroing can restore the precision range when the load and tare conditions permit. This makes the model useful when a vessel plus sample would exceed 51 g but the smallest samples still need semi-micro resolution.

Internal calibration, ionization and automatic doors

The internal calibration weight allows the balance to adjust sensitivity without the operator placing an external weight on the pan. That supports repeatable daily workflows, but regulated laboratories should still perform scheduled checks with suitable traceable weights and follow their SOP for calibration status, tolerances and records.

Static is especially important when weighing powders, plastic vessels, filters and low-mass samples. The supplied external ionizer helps neutralize charged samples and containers. The non-contact door sensors reduce hand movement around the chamber and can speed repetitive work while limiting drafts caused by manually sliding the glass panels.

BA-125DTE versus BA-125D and BA-225TE

The “T” in BA-125DTE identifies the touch-screen BA-T version. The BA-125D is the related reverse-backlit LCD version, so buyers should not treat BA-125D and BA-125DTE as interchangeable names. The BA-225TE provides a 220 g single range at 0.01 mg, while the BA-125DTE trades some high-resolution capacity for its 51 g/120 g dual-range design. Choose by the total vessel-plus-sample mass, not the sample mass alone.

Best-fit applications and buying checklist

Typical uses include formulation, pharmaceutical sample preparation, gravimetric analysis, quality control, filter weighing, standards preparation and research. Before ordering, confirm the heaviest container plus sample, required minimum weight and uncertainty, available bench space, environmental control, data-output method, cleaning procedure, desired accessories and documentation requirements. If a method requires legal-for-trade approval, verify the exact approved configuration rather than assuming a laboratory balance qualifies.

Frequently asked questions

What are the capacity and readability of the BA-125DTE?

It provides 51 g capacity at 0.01 mg readability and 120 g capacity at 0.1 mg readability using a smart dual-range function.

Does the A&D BA-125DTE have internal calibration?

Yes. A&D specifies automatic internal self-calibration. Routine verification with appropriate traceable standards may still be required by the laboratory’s quality system.

What is the difference between BA-125DTE and BA-125D?

BA-125DTE is the BA-T touch-screen version. BA-125D uses the related reverse-backlit LCD interface, so the complete model suffix should be confirmed before purchase.

Does the BA-125DTE include an ionizer and automatic doors?

Yes. The BA-T model is supplied with an external ionizer and automatic side doors that can be operated using non-contact sensors.

Is 0.01 mg readability the same as 0.01 mg accuracy?

No. Readability is the display increment. Measurement uncertainty also depends on repeatability, linearity, calibration, minimum weight, environment, sample behavior and technique.

What should I verify before buying a BA-125DTE?

Confirm gross load, required minimum weight, environmental conditions, calibration and documentation rules, interfaces, accessories, power, service support and any regulatory approval needed for the application.
