A&D EW-12Ki 3/6/12 kg NTEP Class III triple-range balance provides high compact capacity while automatically changing its legal interval as load increases. Current CoC 04-019A3 lists the EW-12Ki multi-interval configuration at 3,000 g × 1 g, 6,000 g × 2 g and 12,000 g × 5 g, Class III. It also lists a 12,000 g × 5 g single-range configuration. Standard RS-232C, ACAI counting, percent and comparator functions make the hardware useful for inventory and production, but the certificate explicitly excludes counting from legal-for-trade use. A&D’s general accessory literature lists EW-12Ki as physically compatible with an underhook, yet CoC 04-019A3 grants NTEP under-scale weighing only to EK-6000i and EK-12Ki—not EW-12Ki—so an EW-12Ki underhook should be treated as a non-trade process configuration unless another applicable approval establishes otherwise.

Exact Class III multi-interval ranges

The approved multi-interval table is 3,000 g × 1 g, 6,000 g × 2 g and 12,000 g × 5 g. In pound units, MNM lists the corresponding ranges as approximately 6.615 lb × 0.005 lb, 13.23 lb × 0.01 lb and 26.46 lb × 0.02 lb. The lower range therefore provides the finest transaction resolution. A 10 kg load belongs to the upper 5 g / 0.02 lb range, not the 1 g / 0.005 lb range seen at low loads.

Single-range configuration

CoC 04-019A3 also lists EW-12Ki as 12,000 g × 5 g in single-range operation. A&D notes EW models can be configured as multi-interval or single range. For commerce, inspect the actual unit configuration and markings instead of assuming all EW-12Ki scales operate in the three-range mode just because that is the most recognizable catalog description.

NTEP Class III and counting restriction

EW-12Ki is a certified Class III weighing device, but the certificate states that the counting feature is not legal for trade. ACAI can still be used for internal inventory, kitting and receiving, but a calculated piece count is not the approved commercial function under this certificate. Use weight mode and the approved legal range when conducting a regulated weight transaction.

Underhook: physically supported, not NTEP-approved on EW-12Ki

A&D’s general EK/EW-i accessory page includes EW-12Ki in the EKW-07i underhook compatibility list. The NTEP certificate is narrower: its under-scale weighing approval applies only to EK-6000i Class III and EK-12Ki Class II. Therefore an EW-12Ki can be useful for suspended or density work as a process setup, but a U.S. commercial user should not represent that underhook configuration as covered by CoC 04-019A3. The top-pan certified weighing configuration and the underhook process configuration must be distinguished.

MNM specifications and calibration

MNM lists 3,000/6,000/12,000 g capacities, 1/2/5 g readability, 133 × 170 mm pan, 10 display updates per second and 12 kg default calibration mass. Range-specific repeatability is 1/2/5 g and linearity ±1/±2/±5 g. External calibration should be followed by verification using known weights in the actual working ranges. A trade unit’s protected metrological settings should be handled through qualified service and local procedures once placed in service.

RS-232C, percent and portability

Standard RS-232C supports a PC, printer or data logger. Percent mode uses a 100 g minimum 100% reference, and ACAI counting has a 1 g minimum unit weight with up to about 12,000 displayed pieces. An optional rechargeable battery supports mobile operation; current A&D family information advertises approximately 250 hours for current battery hardware. The battery and comparator-relay options cannot be installed together.

Frequently asked questions

Is EW-12Ki NTEP? Yes, Class III on current CoC 04-019A3. What are the multi-range intervals? 3 kg × 1 g, 6 kg × 2 g and 12 kg × 5 g. Is single-range operation also listed? Yes, 12 kg × 5 g. Is counting legal for trade? No. Is an underhook physically supported? A&D lists EW-12Ki compatibility, but the NTEP under-scale approval applies only to EK-6000i and EK-12Ki, not EW-12Ki. Does it have RS-232C? Yes. Default calibration mass? 12 kg.
