A&D FC-50Ki counting scale is the high-capacity end of the FC-i family for organizations that need to count parts in heavy bins without giving up the memory, ACAI and connectivity features of a dedicated counting workstation. A&D specifies 50 kg / 100 lb capacity, 5 g direct readability, a 300 × 280 mm weighing pan and a maximum count display of 1,000,000 pieces.
Direct weight versus minimum piece weight
For the FC-50Ki, direct displayed weight changes in 5 g steps. The counting system, however, works from higher internal resolution. A&D specifies a 1 g minimum unit weight in normal mode and 0.05 g in fine mode. The 0.05 g value does not mean the scale is a 0.05 g weighing balance. It describes the unit-weight threshold used by the piece-count algorithm. Buyers evaluating very light parts should consider both the counting threshold and actual part-to-part variation.
Why choose 50 kg capacity?
The extra capacity is useful when the container itself is heavy or a full lot contains thousands of pieces. Examples include castings, larger fasteners, fittings, stamped components, packaged hardware, automotive parts and warehouse totes. The 300 × 280 mm platform provides more usable surface than smaller FC models. If your bins routinely exceed 50 kg, the FC-05i remote-platform option can be a better route than overloading the main scale.
ACAI and large-lot counting
Large lots magnify small average-piece-weight errors. ACAI is valuable because it updates the unit-weight estimate as additional pieces are added. For heavy production lots, establish the average piece weight from a clean representative sample rather than from a handful of unusually light or heavy pieces. If a component has multiple vendors or revisions, store separate item records or rebuild the sample when the source changes.
Memory, data and expansion
The FC-i platform stores up to 500 items and provides standard RS-232C. Optional FC-03i or FC-04i interface boards extend serial or relay functions, while FC-05i supports a remote second scale. That makes the FC-50Ki suitable for a permanent counting cell connected to a printer or inventory terminal, not just a stand-alone bench scale. The comparator and buzzer can also support target quantity checks during packaging or kit preparation.
Calibration and installation
MNM lists a 50 kg calibration weight for FC-50Ki. Because this is a high-capacity bench instrument, the support surface matters: a flexing cart or vibrating bench can make a good scale look unstable. Level the unit, keep the platform clear of side contact, route cables so they do not pull on the housing and verify known weights across the range after calibration. For production counting, also test a known quantity of actual parts before releasing the station to operators.
Best fit
Choose FC-50Ki when 100 lb capacity, 500 stored items, ACAI and industrial data connectivity are more important than very fine direct weight display. It is especially useful in warehouses and factories with recurring heavy-bin counts. For lighter containers and smaller parts, FC-20Ki may provide a better capacity/readability balance.
