The A&D FX-500i RS-232 and data functions support laboratory and production workflows that need more than a local display. Standard bidirectional RS-232C can feed a printer, PC or logger; internal Quick USB, Ethernet or rechargeable-battery options can tailor the station; statistics, ACAI counting, percent and GLP-style outputs support QC and documentation. The internal FXi-02, FXi-08 and FXi-09 options are mutually exclusive, so connectivity should be planned before purchase. None of these options changes FX-500i’s non-NTEP status.
Standard RS-232C
RS-232C is included and supports weighing-data output and compatible command control. Define baud, parity, data length, stop bits and transmission mode consistently on both ends. Test several known weights and confirm that the receiving program stores the same unit and decimal position as the display. A serial communications fault should not trigger balance recalibration if the local displayed weight passes independent verification.
FXi-02 Quick USB
Quick USB provides a simple path for sending balance data to a computer without building a traditional serial integration. It is useful for spreadsheet/lab-record workflows where the operator initiates data transfer. Confirm how the connected application receives the data and whether unit/stability status is included, because convenient USB input is only useful if the resulting record remains unambiguous.
FXi-08 Ethernet
Ethernet suits fixed networked stations where balances need to communicate over a LAN. Coordinate IP/network settings with IT, validate data transport and define what happens if the network is unavailable during a critical measurement. The balance should still be verified locally; networking does not alter the underlying metrology.
FXi-09 rechargeable battery
The internal rechargeable battery option supports mobile use where AC power is inconvenient. It occupies the same internal option position as Quick USB/Ethernet, so it cannot be combined with those two boards. A mobile workstation can still use standard RS-232C or supported external conversion hardware. Re-level and verify after moving the balance before critical measurements.
FXi-02, FXi-08 and FXi-09 are mutually exclusive
This option conflict is one of the most important purchase-planning details. Choose Quick USB for local PC entry, Ethernet for a fixed networked station, or the internal battery for mobility. Do not order all three expecting them to install together. Standard RS-232C remains available and can often solve the secondary communication requirement even when one internal option is selected.
Bluetooth through GXA-27
GXA-27 provides Bluetooth connectivity where the module is approved for the country of use. Wireless operation is convenient for cable-free data collection, but validate range, pairing stability and data handling in the real lab. Bluetooth certification varies by country/market, so confirm availability rather than assuming the module is approved everywhere.
Statistics and ACAI counting
Statistical calculation can summarize repeated QC measurements, and ACAI counting refines average unit weight for parts. Use individual stored measurements when auditability or outlier investigation matters. Counting accuracy depends on part uniformity and sample size; statistics accuracy depends on the quality of each individual measurement. Software functions cannot compensate for poor physical sampling.
GLP/GMP/GCP/ISO-style output
FX-i can output identifying and calibration-related records designed to support controlled quality systems. Use these records as part of a broader SOP that governs calibration/verification, user access, data review and retention. The presence of a GLP-style printout does not automatically make the entire electronic system compliant.
Underhook and special data collection
Underhook weighing can be combined with RS-232C data collection for density or suspended-load tests. Validate the hanging fixture mechanically and metrologically. The accessory/fixture becomes part of the measurement setup; if it rubs on the enclosure or bench, data can be consistently wrong even though the balance electronics are correct.
Non-NTEP status remains unchanged
There is no current FX-500iN in A&D’s U.S. NTEP model matrix. Adding USB, Ethernet, Bluetooth, a battery or software does not create legal-for-trade approval. If a regulated commercial transaction requires a certified balance, use the exact approved model and data configuration intended for that use.
