A&D FZ-120i internal calibration is the feature that separates this model most clearly from the externally calibrated FX-120i. The built-in mass lets the operator run a calibration routine without placing a loose standard on the pan, which is especially useful for shared laboratories, production QC and locations where routine calibration is performed frequently.
Calibration versus verification
Internal calibration adjusts the measurement relationship using the built-in reference. Verification asks whether the balance then produces acceptable results when challenged with independent known masses. A sensible routine stabilizes and levels the balance, runs internal calibration and then checks one or more traceable external standards that bracket the normal workload. Record expected value, observed value, error and acceptance limit.
RS-232C and optional interfaces
RS-232C is standard and can connect a printer, PC or data logger. FXi-02 Quick USB, FXi-08 Ethernet and FXi-09 rechargeable battery are optional, but A&D states these three options cannot be used simultaneously. GXA-27 Bluetooth may be available where approved. Choose the option from the actual workflow rather than treating the accessory list as cumulative.
Underhook and troubleshooting
Underhook weighing supports density or suspended-load work, but cords, drafts and rubbing contact can add error. If normal readings drift, first inspect level, vibration, airflow, static, sample temperature and anything touching the pan. Run internal calibration after the environment stabilizes, then test an independent known mass. If a stable test mass still varies excessively, service may be needed.
Protecting data quality
Before relying on automated output, validate the full path from balance to receiving software. Confirm unit, decimal point, timestamp, stable-reading trigger and sample identity. An accurate balance can still produce a bad final record if software rounds, converts or associates the measurement incorrectly.
