A&D SE-60KAL setup should begin with the mechanical basics—stable support, level adjustment, a clear platform and a verified zero—before counting modes or communication options are configured. Most apparent electronic problems are easier to diagnose when the scale is first proven mechanically stable.
Initial mechanical setup
Place the scale on a rigid surface that does not rock under load. Keep the pan free from walls, hoses, tables and debris because any contact path can bypass the load cell and change the reading. Level the instrument, install batteries correctly or use the approved power arrangement, allow the reading to stabilize, then confirm zero and a known weight before programming production features.
Choosing normal or high readability
A&D documents the 60 kg SE-60KAL with 0.02 kg normal readability and 0.01 kg higher readability. More digits can make small changes easier to observe, but they do not automatically improve repeatability, legal division size or process uncertainty. Use the setting that matches the delivered configuration and the measurement requirement.
Counting mode workflow
For counting, start with a clean tare container if needed, build a representative sample, store the sample as directed by the scale, then add the production quantity. If parts vary in mass, increase the sample and periodically audit the displayed count. Counting is a unit-weight calculation, so tiny part-to-part differences become important when the count is large.
Comparator mode
Comparator limits can support pass/fail or low/OK/high workflows for packages, ingredients and kits. Establish limits from the process specification, not by guessing around the nominal target. Then verify the programmed thresholds with known loads before operators rely on the indicators.
Quick USB option
A&D's SCE-02 Quick USB is intended for one-way transfer of weighing data to a computer without a specialized serial setup. It is convenient for simple spreadsheet-style capture, but it changes the environmental configuration: A&D says the SE series is not IP68 compliant with SCE-02 installed.
RS-232C and comparator relay
SCE-03 provides RS-232C plus comparator relay output. RS-232C is appropriate when a PC, printer, data logger or controller needs defined serial communication. The relay can support external indication or process logic when engineered correctly. As with Quick USB, A&D states that installing SCE-03 removes IP68 compliance from the SE system.
Bluetooth option
A&D also lists SCE-27 Bluetooth communication for the SC/SE family. Wireless data can be attractive where cable penetrations are undesirable, but confirm the receiving device, software workflow, range and site IT requirements before specifying it as a replacement for a wired data system.
Data-quality checklist
Record the scale model and serial number, unit, readability, tare state and test date along with the weight value when traceability matters. A raw number without configuration context can be ambiguous later. If the data is used for quality decisions, establish a verification schedule and test the complete path from load through the scale to the stored record.

Can Quick USB and RS-232C be installed together?
A&D states SCE-02 and SCE-03 cannot be used at the same time.
Will wired interfaces keep IP68 protection?
No. A&D explicitly notes that the SE series is not IP68 compliant with SCE-02 or SCE-03 installed.
What is the best sample size for counting?
Use a sample large enough to average normal part variation. A larger sample generally improves the unit-weight estimate when pieces are light or inconsistent.
Can the comparator control equipment?
