A&D EK-200i calibration uses a 200 g default external reference and should be followed by independent known-weight verification. With 0.01 g repeatability and ±0.01 g linearity, a stable environment is essential. Static, drafts, temperature change, bench vibration or a container touching the housing can create apparent weighing errors that a calibration adjustment cannot solve.
Calibration and verification workflow
Level the balance, let it acclimate and use an appropriate known 200 g mass for external calibration. After CAL, verify zero plus at least one independent value. If the process uses both light and near-capacity samples, verify multiple points. Keep pre-adjustment results when investigating drift so you can distinguish a gradual trend from a sudden setup problem.
Static, drafts and temperature
Plastic weighing dishes and dry powders can create static forces visible at 0.01 g. Air movement or warm/cold samples can also shift the display. If the reading changes when a hand approaches a container or HVAC turns on, address the environment rather than recalibrating around the disturbance.
Zero and pan-contact problems
Remove all load and inspect for debris, pan mis-seating, an uneven surface or a container touching the housing. Compare center and off-center test positions when practical. A mechanical contact problem can make one placement read differently from another and will not be corrected by a center span calibration.
RS-232 diagnosis
If the local result is correct but the computer receives incorrect characters or values, check serial settings and cable wiring separately. Recalibrating the balance cannot fix a data-format problem. If both local and transmitted results fail a known-weight check, investigate the weighing system first.
