A&D EK-410i calibration is best anchored to the specification on which the manufacturer manual and MNM technical table agree: a 400 g factory calibration mass, 0.01 g repeatability and ±0.02 g linearity. The model’s web pages contain a 400 g versus 410 g capacity inconsistency, but that does not change the documented calibration reference. A good procedure calibrates under stable conditions, then independently verifies the actual working range rather than relying on the CAL completion message alone.
External calibration with 400 g
Level the balance on a rigid bench, allow it and the reference mass to reach the working temperature, and use a suitable known 400 g mass. Center the reference on the 110 mm pan and avoid touching the table while the balance captures the point. The reference weight should be accurate enough for the process; an unverified household object is not appropriate for controlled calibration.
Verify low, middle and high loads
After calibration, remove the mass, confirm zero and check independent values. If the station uses both 20 g samples and 350 g batches, verify near both regions. The upper-end check is especially useful because the model has conflicting 400/410 g web references. Qualification should prove the range your procedure actually uses rather than depend on the marketing name alone.
Static, drafts and temperature
A 0.01 g balance can respond to static on plastic vessels, airflow from HVAC and convection around warm or cold samples. If the reading changes when a hand approaches a plastic container or when a fan cycles, solve the environmental problem before recalibrating. Calibration cannot remove a changing external force.
Eccentric loading and pan contact
Compare the same known load in the center and representative off-center positions if large containers are used. A position-dependent error suggests leveling, pan seating or mechanical contact. Because the round pan is only 110 mm diameter, an oversized vessel can easily touch the housing or bench and bypass part of the load cell.
RS-232 troubleshooting is separate
If the local displayed weight passes verification but a connected computer receives a different number, diagnose cable wiring, serial parameters, unit/decimal formatting and output mode. Do not recalibrate a correctly weighing balance to solve a data-path fault.
