How to Calibrate an MNM GX-1-SH-1K Floor Scale Load Cell

To calibrate an MNM GX-1-SH-1K after installation, treat calibration as a complete system procedure. The indicator stores zero/span values, while the load cell, mount, cable, junction box, platform and test weights determine whether those values are meaningful.

1. Verify the mechanical installation

Unload the scale. Confirm that all feet contact the floor, the deck is level, nothing rubs the frame, cables are not pulling on cells and check rods or piping are not carrying weight. Mechanical binding must be fixed before electronic trimming or span adjustment.

2. Verify wiring before calibration

The MNM listing gives red as +excitation, black as -excitation, green as +signal and white as -signal. Confirm the junction-box and indicator terminals before energizing. Do not assume another manufacturer's color code is identical. Inspect shielding and cable glands, especially on washdown systems.

3. Establish a temporary zero and run a corner test

With the deck empty and stable, establish zero according to the indicator manual. Place the same known test load near each supported corner or load point and record the reading. Move the load rather than changing the load amount. Large corner differences should lead you back to leveling, cell freedom, wiring or junction-box balance.

4. Trim the junction box only as needed

On a multi-cell floor scale, use the junction-box trim controls to bring corner responses together. Make small changes and repeat the same test position/load. Do not use trim to hide a bent mount, overloaded cell or platform that touches the frame.

5. Perform zero and known-load span calibration

After corner balance is acceptable, return the platform to a stable unloaded condition and perform the indicator's zero calibration. Apply a traceable known load appropriate to the scale capacity, allow the reading to stabilize, and perform span calibration using the exact indicator procedure. Because MNM does not publish a GX-1-SH-1K-specific indicator menu, do not borrow button sequences from an unrelated indicator.

6. Verify the finished scale

Remove the test load and confirm return to zero. Repeat the load several times, test multiple weights across the operating range and repeat the corner check. A good calibration should be repeatable; a single perfect span point is not enough if corners disagree or zero drifts.

Legal-for-Trade note

MNM lists the GX-1-SH-1K as NTEP. NTEP compatibility does not by itself make every rebuilt scale legal for commercial transactions. The complete installation, indicator, configuration, sealing and local inspection requirements still matter. Use qualified service when the device is used by weight for sale.
