The 2,000 lb IDS-672-2K sits in a useful middle range for industrial bench testing: substantially more capacity than small force gauges while remaining compact enough for fixtures that do not need a very high-capacity pancake sensor.

Linear actuator and cylinder testing

Mount the load cell on a rigid reaction plate and align the actuator rod to the sensor center. Test force at controlled stroke positions and include enough capacity margin for startup spikes, mechanical stops and control overshoot. Pneumatic cylinder force can change with supply pressure and effective piston area, so a direct load-cell measurement helps verify real fixture output.

Press-fit and bearing insertion force

A press-fit curve can reveal more than final force. Initial breakaway, steady insertion force and final seating force can indicate part variation, lubrication changes or misalignment. Pairing the load cell with displacement data makes the test more informative than a simple pressure gauge reading.

Heavy spring and clamp testing

For springs, test at defined displacement points and use a guided fixture. For clamps, measure force at the same mechanical position or torque setting each time. Avoid creating leverage that moves the effective force off the center of the pancake sensor.

Custom industrial test stands

An OEM stand can pair the IDS-672-2K with a digital indicator for simple operator checks or with a signal conditioner/data-acquisition system for automated pass/fail testing. Include mechanical overload stops where a failed part or control error could drive the fixture beyond the intended force range.

Capacity planning

Do not size only from the expected steady force. Include fixture weight, preload, acceleration, shock, part breakage and control overshoot. At the same time, avoid oversizing by an order of magnitude when small force differences matter, because the resulting measurement system may have less useful signal for the process variation you are trying to see.

Application FAQ

Can it replace a hydraulic pressure gauge for press tonnage?

A load cell measures the actual force at its location, while a pressure gauge estimates cylinder force from hydraulic pressure and piston area. The two measurements answer related but different questions and can be useful together.

Is 2,000 lb enough for automotive suspension springs?

It may be for some springs and deflections, but heavy springs can exceed 2,000 lb. Estimate the maximum spring force at the intended compression before selecting the sensor.
