The MNM Scales 1,000 lb load cell for hoist, hanging-load and rigging force measurement can be used as an inline S-beam sensing system when a maintenance shop, fabricator or test facility needs to observe actual suspended force up to the system’s rated range. The 0.1 lb displayed increment and Peak Hold feature make it useful for controlled measurements where both steady load and transient maximum force matter.
How Inline Suspended-Force Measurement Works
In tension, the load path runs from the upper fixture through the S-beam to the lower attachment. The load cell produces an electrical signal proportional to axial force and the indicator displays the calibrated value. Correct alignment is essential. The sensor should not be used as a side-loaded structural link or allowed to twist as the load hangs.
Useful Hoist and Rigging Test Questions
A controlled setup can answer questions such as: What force is present at a particular point in a hanging fixture? What peak occurs when a small hoist starts moving a load? Did a maintenance change alter the measured force? Does a fabricated fixture distribute load as expected? These are measurement questions, not certification decisions. The load cell provides data; equipment ratings and regulatory proof tests remain governed by the relevant manufacturer, engineer and safety requirements.
Peak Hold for Startup Loads
Starting and stopping a suspended load can create peaks that differ from the static reading. Peak Hold captures the maximum observed value so the operator does not need to watch the display continuously. For meaningful comparisons, use the same lifting speed, geometry, attachment hardware and load each time.

Safety and Measurement Limits
Keep the planned force within the 1,000 lb system rating and within the working limits of every attachment, support and fixture component. Avoid shock loading. Keep personnel out of the line of force. If the task is a formal hoist or rigging certification test, use the required qualified personnel, test procedure and documentation rather than treating the presence of a calibrated sensor as certification by itself.
