A 20,000 lb x 0.2 lb S-type force scale is attractive for winch, cable and proof-load work because it combines a high nominal force range with finer displayed changes than the common 1 lb and 2 lb versions. It can be used in a controlled inline test fixture to compare winch pull, cable or wire-rope tension, hoist force, actuator pull and component proof loads. This is measurement equipment, not a substitute for rated rigging hardware or engineered safety controls.
Winch pull-force testing
For a winch test, place the S-beam in a straight, controlled force path between appropriately rated fixtures. Avoid side pull and shock loading. The 0.2 lb displayed increment is useful when comparing changes caused by drum layer, voltage, mechanical condition, gearing or setup, but real-world winch testing can fluctuate because of rope stretch, drum geometry and dynamic effects. Record stable pulls or repeatable peaks rather than treating a single transient digit as the entire result.
