The MNM Scales 3,000 lb x 0.1 lb load cell for winch, hoist and pull-force testing provides a useful combination of heavy-force range and fine displayed increments for controlled shop, maintenance and equipment-evaluation work. An inline S-beam measures the actual force transmitted through the test path, while the OP-901A Peak Hold function can retain a short maximum that may be missed on a live display.
Why Measure Actual Line Pull?
Winch and hoist force can change with drum layer, line angle, sheaves, friction, startup conditions and the geometry of the load. Measuring inline force allows a technician to compare before/after service performance, quantify breakaway force, study a pulley arrangement, evaluate a fabricated fixture or document a repeatable controlled pull instead of relying only on a nameplate rating or subjective feel.
Peak Hold and 0.1 lb Increments
The 0.1 lb display increment is helpful for comparison work, while Peak Hold is useful for transient maxima. For example, the force needed to start a mechanism moving can be higher than the steady force after motion begins. Peak Hold can retain that maximum for the operator. Remember that display increment does not mean the entire 3,000 lb system has ±0.1 lb total uncertainty; calibration, alignment and mechanics still affect the result.

A Better Controlled Test Setup
Place the S-beam directly in the engineered load path with rated adapters that allow axial alignment. Zero the system without test force. Apply load smoothly and keep personnel away from the line of force. If the goal is comparison, repeat attachment points, cable routing and loading rate. A sensor reading is only as useful as the mechanical setup around it; side loading or fixture flex can make two otherwise identical tests look different.
Hoist and Suspended-Load Uses
In a controlled hoist fixture, the system can measure suspended force, compare equipment behavior before and after maintenance, observe peak force during startup and validate an internal test setup. It does not by itself certify a hoist, sling, crane or lifting assembly; regulatory load testing may require specified procedures, proof loads and qualified personnel.

Can a load cell measure winch pulling force? Yes, when installed inline in a controlled test fixture. What does Peak Hold do? It retains the highest measured value. Why use an S-beam instead of a platform scale? An S-beam can become part of the tension load path directly. Can the reading be sent to a computer?
