MNM 5,000 lb x 1 lb Load Cell for Hoist, Winch & Pull-Force Testing
The 5,000 lb x 1 lb MNM S-type system fits a common middle ground for controlled hoist, winch, cable and pull-force measurements. It offers enough capacity for many industrial fixtures without moving to a 10,000- or 20,000-lb sensor, while the 1 lb display is simple to interpret in processes where force naturally varies by several pounds.
Hoist and lifting-force verification
In a controlled test setup, an inline S-beam can measure the force developed by a hoist or lifting mechanism. The load cell should be aligned axially and every attachment must be properly rated. Use controlled test fixtures and keep personnel away from the force path. A measurement reading does not certify the lifting system or replace overload protection, inspections or regulatory requirements.
Winch and cable pull testing
For winch or cable tests, use rigid anchors and controlled loading. Record stable live readings or repeatable Peak Hold results depending on the test objective. Rope stretch, drum layer, voltage and mechanical friction can change the force, so repeat the test under the same conditions. The 1 lb increment is useful for process comparisons without producing excessive visual fluctuation from very fine resolution.

Actuator and test-stand applications
A 5,000 lb S-beam can also be built into an actuator test stand for push/pull force, clamp-force development, component breakaway tests, spring or linkage testing and quality-control comparisons. The test frame must be stiff enough that it does not flex significantly relative to the force being measured. Keep the cell centered and use guides that control the specimen without transmitting side loads into the sensor.
What buyers should verify
Confirm maximum expected force, tension versus compression use, required display increment, Peak Hold needs, RS-232 needs, fixture threads and hardware ratings, calibration reference, environmental conditions and whether NTEP/legal-for-trade status is actually relevant to the application. For engineering force tests, calibration and fixture quality are usually more important than commercial weighing approval.
