MNM Comp-3K-0.1 for Actuator, Clamp, Press & Bench Force Testing
The MNM Comp-3K-0.1 3,000 lb x 0.1 lb LP7515 compression system fits actuator thrust, clamp force, small press, assembly-fixture and bench test-stand applications where operators need more capacity than a light force gauge but still want fine visible force increments and Peak Hold capability.
Actuator thrust testing
For linear actuators, align the actuator axis with the load cell and use a rigid reaction frame. Compare force at defined stroke positions or at a controlled stop. If the actuator stalls against a hard fixture, ensure the fixture and sensor are protected from forces beyond their rating. Peak Hold can capture maximum thrust during a controlled test, while live mode shows how force changes through the stroke.
Clamp and assembly-fixture force
Clamping force can vary with pneumatic/hydraulic pressure, linkage geometry, wear and setup. Place the sensor so the force passes through it in the same direction and position used during normal operation. A temporary test block or purpose-built calibration fixture often produces more repeatable results than balancing the S-beam in an improvised contact point.
Small presses and press-fit work
The 3,000 lb range can be useful for light press operations, component seating, small bearings/bushings and controlled assembly work. Force data can flag misalignment or a process change, but it should be interpreted with press position, tooling geometry, lubrication and part condition. A high force is not automatically a bad part, and a low force is not automatically acceptable without an established process window.
Building a repeatable bench test
Use a rigid frame and fixtures that keep the compression axis aligned.
Verify calibration and zero with the complete fixture assembled but unloaded.
Define the test speed, stroke/position and whether the reported value is live force or Peak Hold.
Run multiple cycles to establish normal repeatability before setting tight acceptance limits.
Record fixture and calibration information with test results when traceability matters.
Using 0.1 lb readability wisely
Fine indication is useful for trend detection and comparative work only when the fixture is stable. If an actuator mount flexes, a clamp slips or a press vibrates, the display may change by more than 0.1 lb for reasons unrelated to the component being tested. Use repeatability data to decide how many displayed digits are actually significant for the process.
Troubleshooting test-stand readings
Reading changes when the fixture is tightened: the fixture may be preloading or side-loading the sensor.
Peak varies but steady force does not: control loading rate and contact/part seating.
Zero shifts after every cycle: check mechanical binding, heating, thread movement or overload.
Displayed force is consistently wrong: verify calibration with a known reference before changing acceptance limits.
