The 3,000 lb range suits springs too heavy for automotive or valve-spring testers, while the 0.2 lb display supports detailed comparison when the fixture is rigid and repeatable.

Testing at specified heights

Measure force at the manufacturer’s specified free, installed and compressed heights. Use a separate accurate displacement reference, parallel plates and centered spring seats. Record both force and height; a peak value alone cannot describe spring rate.

Die and mold spring comparison

Sort springs by force at the same compression, identify fatigue after service and compare replacement batches. Pre-cycle according to the chosen test method. Maintain guards because a 3,000 lb compressed spring stores substantial energy.

Avoiding misleading results

Friction, crooked seating, different compression speed and temperature can change readings. Repeat each measurement and rotate the spring to detect seating problems. If the result changes more with repositioning than between springs, improve the fixture before drawing conclusions.

Safety

Use a rigid rated frame, containment guards, travel stops and remote operation where practical. Never exceed the sensor or frame rating, and do not stand in line with a compressed spring. Inspect the fixture before every high-energy test.
