MNM Four 2,500 lb Stainless Shear Beams for Hopper, Tank & Batching Scales
A four-cell 2,500 lb stainless shear-beam package can be used under hoppers, tanks, ingredient bins and batching vessels when the support structure is designed to transfer vessel load consistently into the sensors. These applications are often harder than platform scales because piping, hoses, agitators, ladders and process connections can create parallel force paths that bypass the load cells.
Capacity planning for vessels
Start with empty vessel weight, maximum product weight, agitator or accessory loads, expected off-center loading and a realistic safety margin. Four 2,500 lb cells total 10,000 lb of sensor nameplate capacity, but the finished system should not be casually labeled a 10,000 lb vessel scale without the engineering calculation. Process impacts and asymmetric loading can put more force on one support than simple total-weight division suggests.
Piping and hose isolation
Rigid piping can support part of the tank weight or push/pull on the vessel as temperature and pressure change. Use flexible connections or appropriate piping geometry so the load cells measure the vessel rather than fighting the plant piping. Similar issues occur with electrical conduit, dust collection, fill chutes and discharge connections. If a tank scale changes reading when a valve moves or a hose is connected, inspect these parallel force paths before recalibrating.

Corner/support balance and calibration
With the vessel empty and mechanically free, verify all supports are carrying load. Use suitable test methods at each support location to confirm cell response and trim the junction box as required. Then zero the empty vessel and span the complete system with a known reference. Depending on vessel size, calibration may use certified test weights, material substitution, load transfer or another traceable method appropriate to the process. Reverify zero after filling and emptying cycles to detect binding or piping effects.
Common troubleshooting searches
Tank scale weight changes with piping, hopper scale will not return to zero, one load cell reads different, batching scale drifts, vessel scale corners are uneven, and scale changed after replacing one load cell are all symptoms that can come from mechanics as easily as electronics. Check support freedom, piping, junction-box moisture, cable damage and individual cell response before repeatedly changing span.
