MNM Four 500 lb Shear Beams for Small Hopper & Batching Scales

Four compact 500 lb shear beams can support small ingredient hoppers, bins and batching vessels when the structure is designed to transfer the vessel load cleanly into the four sensors. These systems are common search targets for DIY hopper scale load cells, ingredient batching scale, small tank weighing and four load cell process scale.

Calculate vessel load before choosing capacity

Include empty hopper weight, maximum product weight, motors or agitators, lids, frames and any expected asymmetric loading. Four 500 lb cells provide 2,000 lb of combined sensor nameplate capacity, but a completed hopper should use a lower engineered working capacity that accounts for dead load and margin. A vessel that is filled off-center can temporarily put much more than one-quarter of the total load on a single support.

Control piping and parallel force paths

Rigid inlet/outlet piping, hoses, conduit and dust-collection connections can support part of the vessel or pull on it. Use flexible connections and consistent support geometry so the load cells measure product weight rather than piping stress. If the displayed weight changes when a valve or hose moves, inspect the mechanical connections before recalibrating.

Corner/support balance and span

Test each support point with a repeatable load and use the junction box to balance the four cell contributions. Then zero the empty vessel and span-calibrate with a traceable known load or suitable material-substitution procedure. Verify repeatability through several fill/empty cycles. If zero shifts after a cycle, check for product bridging, sticky material, piping forces or mechanical contact before changing calibration.

Alloy steel vs stainless for process weighing

This kit uses alloy-steel cells and is attractive for many dry indoor process applications. If the hopper sits in a washdown, corrosive or persistently wet environment, consider a stainless moisture-sealed kit and make sure the junction box and electronics are equally suitable. Environmental selection should be based on the entire system, not only the load-cell body material.
