MNM MS-1-2K Replacement Guide: How to Match a 2,000 lb S-Type Load Cell

A 2,000 lb S-type load cell replacement should be matched by more than capacity. The MNM MS-1-2K is a 2,000 lb alloy-steel, roughly 3 mV/V S-beam with a 350 Ω-class bridge and a published four-wire cable, but a successful replacement also depends on mechanical geometry, thread size, installed height, excitation compatibility and the way the old system is calibrated.

Replacement Checklist

Start with rated capacity and loading direction. Then compare the physical envelope, centerline height, thread size/pitch, available clearance, cable exit direction and how rod ends, eye bolts or clevises attach. Electrically, compare rated output, input/output resistance, excitation range and conductor count. Finally, confirm the connected indicator can be recalibrated for the new sensor.

MS-1-2K Electrical Match Points

MNM publishes 3.00 ± 0.01 mV/V rated output, 385 ± 15 Ω input resistance, 350 ± 5 Ω output resistance and 10 V DC/AC excitation for the MS-1-2K. Cable colors are red +excitation, black -excitation, green +signal and white -signal. A candidate replacement with similar electrical behavior may be easier for an existing indicator to accommodate, but physical compatibility still must be verified.

Do Not Assume Same Capacity Means Drop-In Fit

Two 2,000 lb S-beams can differ in body dimensions, threaded hole size, cable length, sealing, approval status and rated output. Those differences can change installed geometry or calibration. If the existing system is Legal for Trade, replacement also has approval and service implications beyond simple electrical functionality.

After Installing the New Load Cell

Do not expect the previous calibration to remain correct. Verify wiring, establish a no-load zero, perform a known-load span calibration and check several points through the working range. Compare increasing and decreasing loads to reveal binding or hysteresis problems in the fixture.

Questions Buyers Commonly Ask

Can I replace a 2,000 lb load cell with a larger one? Mechanically it may be possible, but sensitivity and usable resolution can change, and the indicator must be reconfigured and recalibrated. Can I splice the cable? It may be possible in some industrial systems, but poor splices introduce resistance, moisture entry and noise; preserve shield integrity and follow the indicator/load-cell manufacturer's practices. Can I reuse the old eye bolts? Only if thread, condition and load rating are appropriate for the new sensor and application.
