MNM MS-1-3K Replacement Guide: Matching a 3,000 lb S-Type Load Cell

Replacing a 3,000 lb S-type load cell requires matching both mechanics and electronics. The MS-1-3K's published signal is 3.00 ± 0.01 mV/V with a 350 Ω-class bridge, but the replacement still needs the correct thread pattern, body size, installed height, cable route and capacity for the actual machine or scale.

Six Things to Compare Before Ordering

Compare rated capacity, overall dimensions, thread size and pitch, installed center-to-center height, rated output/bridge resistance, and cable/conductor arrangement. Also verify material and environmental sealing if the original cell works in a wet or corrosive area. The alloy-steel MS-1-3K should not automatically replace a stainless or hermetically sealed cell just because both are 3,000 lb.

Electrical Compatibility

The MS-1-3K is published at 385 ± 15 Ω input resistance, 350 ± 5 Ω output resistance and 10 V DC/AC excitation. Red/black are excitation and green/white are signal. Never assume color coding is identical across manufacturers; confirm the new sensor's documentation before connecting it to an indicator.

Capacity Changes Are Not Free Upgrades

Installing a higher-capacity sensor may reduce signal change for the normal working force and can reduce useful resolution. Installing a smaller cell may create an overload risk. Choose capacity from the maximum real force, dead load and dynamic/shock factors rather than from the nearest available catalog number.

Always Recalibrate the System

After replacement, establish zero and perform a known-load span calibration in the connected indicator/controller. Then verify several points. Even a nominally identical sensor can have enough output variation that the old calibration should not be trusted without verification.
