The MNM Scales 2,000 lb load cell for actuator, winch and industrial test stand force measurement gives machine builders, fabricators and maintenance teams a calibrated sensor package for measuring real output force rather than estimating it from motor torque, hydraulic pressure or equipment ratings. Its S-type load cell handles both tension and compression, while the 0.5 lb display, Peak Hold, rechargeable indicator and RS232 output support portable shop testing and repeatable fixtures.

Linear Actuator Push and Pull Testing
Install the S-beam inline with the actuator so the force follows the sensor axis. In tension, the actuator pulls through the load cell; in compression, the fixture pushes through it without introducing bending. Measuring actual output helps evaluate actuator sizing, gearing, screw efficiency, wear, lubrication and performance at different points in travel. If the actuator can exceed 2,000 lb at stall, limit the test mechanically or through the control system before connecting the sensor.
Winch and Cable Pull Tests
For controlled winch tests, the S-beam sits inline between the winch cable and a rated reaction point. It can measure steady line pull, breakaway force and maximum pull captured by Peak Hold. Effective drum radius, cable layer and mechanical losses can make actual line force differ from a simple motor or gearbox calculation. Keep personnel clear of the tensioned line and avoid shock loading, which can exceed the intended test force in an instant.

Fabrication and Production Test Fixtures
Fabrication shops can build fixtures that use the load cell to compare pull strength, compression force, clamp load or force required to move an assembly. Production teams can create simple pass/fail checks around a known acceptable force range. The value of the system comes from repeatability: use the same mounting points, same loading direction, same speed and same pre-load for every sample.
Peak Hold for Breakaway and Maximum Force
Breakaway force is often higher than running force. A bearing, slide or mechanical linkage may require its greatest force at the instant motion starts. Peak Hold can capture that value, while the live display shows the force after motion begins. Recording both can help diagnose friction, alignment and maintenance problems.
RS232 for Quality and R&D Data
RS232 allows the indicator to communicate with compatible external equipment. A test record can combine force with part number, operator, actuator position, input voltage, current, travel or cycle count. For simple shop checks, the display and Peak Hold may be enough; for engineering experiments, collecting force alongside other variables produces much more useful information.
FAQ
Can it test a 2,000 lb linear actuator?
It can measure an actuator whose actual applied force stays within the 2,000 lb sensor range. Avoid testing at a condition that could overload the cell.
Can it measure winch line pull?
Yes, in a controlled inline setup with rated anchors and hardware.
Can it measure compression in a test stand?
Yes. The S-beam supports compression as well as tension when the fixture keeps force axial.
