MNM Scales 2,000 lb Load Cell for Hoist, Hanging Load & Rigging Force Measurement

Need help with a hanging-load or hoist measurement setup? Call MNM Scales at (832) 290-3120 or email mnmscales@yahoo.com.

The MNM Scales 2,000 lb load cell for hoist, hanging load and rigging force measurement provides a portable way to measure axial tension in controlled lifting and suspended-load setups. Its 2,000 lb capacity, 0.5 lb display increments, rechargeable indicator and Peak Hold make it useful for shop hoists, light crane fixtures, suspended components, maintenance checks and engineered lifting-test setups where a 5,000 lb or 20,000 lb sensor would add unnecessary capacity.

2,000 lb S-beam crane scale system for controlled hoist and suspended load testing

Inline Measurement of Suspended Force

The S-beam is installed between the upper support and the suspended load so the tensile force passes directly through the sensor. Eye bolts, clevises or suitable tension hardware can connect the load cell to the fixture. A straight load path matters because side pull and bending introduce unwanted strain. The digital indicator can be mounted remotely enough that the operator does not need to stand directly beside or under the suspended load to read it.

Why a 2,000 lb Range Can Be Better Than Oversizing

Using a sensor much larger than the expected load can sacrifice useful resolution. For loads in the hundreds to low thousands of pounds, the 2,000 lb system’s 0.5 lb display increment gives good visibility while still providing substantial capacity. Examples include engine or equipment lifting fixtures, small overhead hoists, suspended bins, shop cranes and product test rigs that never approach the capacities of heavy industrial crane systems.

Peak Hold During Hoist Starts and Load Movement

A suspended load can create a momentary peak when a hoist starts, when slack is removed or when a component binds. Peak Hold retains the highest value during the controlled cycle. This can help maintenance teams compare equipment behavior before and after service. Keep the test slow and deliberate; shock loading from dropping, jerking or suddenly snatching a load can create forces far above the static weight and is not a substitute for a controlled measurement procedure.

Rigging and Lifting-Fixture Testing

A load cell can document force while developing or checking an engineered lifting fixture, spreader arrangement or shop lifting tool. It can also help verify load sharing when testing one connection point at a time. The measured number does not certify the rigging hardware; hooks, slings, shackles, frames and hoists must be selected and inspected under their own ratings and applicable standards.

RS232 and Maintenance Records

RS232 can send the displayed value to compatible external equipment. Maintenance teams can use logged values to compare the same hoist or fixture over time, provided the test geometry stays consistent. Record the load path, attachment hardware, maximum force, stable force and any unusual motion so the number has useful context later.

FAQ

Can it be used as a hanging scale?

Yes, when installed with appropriately rated inline hardware and kept within the 2,000 lb capacity.

Can it capture the maximum during a lift?

Peak Hold can retain the highest force reached during a controlled load cycle.

Does it certify rigging?

No. It measures force; certification and safe working limits depend on the complete rigging system and applicable procedures.
