Hopper and Tank Weighing With Tension Load Cells
A suspended vessel can be supported from one or more tension load cells so the vessel’s weight passes through the sensors. In batching and filling, the indicator can tare the empty hopper, measure material added, and provide data to an operator or control system. The support geometry must distribute load predictably; piping, flexible hoses and rigid connections can create parasitic forces that make a tank appear lighter or heavier than it really is.

Do not size only from average operating weight. Include dead load, maximum product load, uneven load sharing in multi-cell systems, dynamic effects and an engineering margin. In a multi-cell vessel, the total nominal capacity may be several times 2,500 lb, but one cell can carry more than an equal share if the structure is not level or the center of gravity shifts. Mechanical stops or overload protection can protect cells from accidental shock without affecting normal weighing travel.
