MNM Scales 4 x 1,000 lb Floor Scale Kit Calibration Guide
Calibrating an MNM Scales four-cell 1,000 lb floor-scale kit requires more than one center weight and one span adjustment. Because a four-cell platform distributes weight among four sensors, the best workflow is mechanical leveling, wiring verification, corner testing and junction-box trim first, followed by the indicator's zero/span calibration and multi-point verification.
Why Corner Trim Comes Before Final Span
If a test weight reads correctly at the center but high near one corner, changing span can make the center wrong without fixing the corner. Corner trim addresses relative differences between support points; span establishes the overall relationship between summed sensor output and displayed weight. Balance the platform first, then calibrate the total system.
Step 1: Level and Inspect
Set the scale on a firm surface and adjust the feet until all four support points carry the platform without rocking. Confirm the live deck does not touch a ramp, wall, conduit, checking hardware or debris. Inspect beam mounting bolts, spacers and cable routes. A mechanical load bypass creates errors that electronic trimming cannot properly solve.
Step 2: Verify Wiring
MNM lists Red +Excitation, Black -Excitation, Green +Signal and White -Signal. Confirm every cell is connected consistently in the junction box. Label each corner. Protect the cable and avoid unnecessary splices. If cable lengths are changed, follow the junction-box and indicator instructions because cable resistance can influence balance.
Step 3: Run a Four-Corner Test
Use the same known test load near each cell support point. Put it in the same relative location at each corner and record all four readings. A useful test load should be large enough to reveal differences while remaining safely inside the scale design. If one corner is dramatically different, inspect the mechanics and wiring before adjusting the junction box.

Step 4: Trim the Junction Box
Analog summing boxes commonly use individual trim potentiometers. Follow the exact junction-box manual for adjustment direction and procedure. Make small changes and repeat the full corner sequence after each round. The objective is for the same reference load to produce acceptably similar readings at all support points without using trim to hide a damaged or binding structure.
Step 5: Establish Zero
Leave the finished deck and permanently attached hardware on the cells. Remove only the material to be weighed. After the system stabilizes, follow the exact indicator manual to establish the no-load calibration point. The deck's dead weight is part of normal operation and must remain on the sensors.
Step 6: Perform Span Calibration
Place a known reference load on the platform, normally centered, and use the indicator's span procedure to associate the sensor output with that known weight. A reference that exercises a meaningful portion of the working range is more informative than a very small calibration load. For Legal-for-Trade service, the applicable test standards, tolerances, placing-in-service and sealing requirements must also be followed.
Step 7: Verify Multiple Conditions
Recheck the four corners, center and more than one known weight. Load and unload the platform to verify return to zero. If the scale will normally see pallets or animals placed off center, verify realistic off-center positions as well. A good calibration is one that holds across the intended weighing area, not only at a single point.
When Corner Trim Will Not Fix the Problem
A corner that cannot be brought into range may indicate a damaged cell, incorrect wiring, poor foot contact, a twisted deck, a mechanical obstruction, moisture damage or an unsuitable trim range. Diagnose those causes instead of continuing to turn the adjustment. All four corners drifting together points more toward a common connection, excitation, indicator, temperature or system-level issue.
