MS-1-100 100 lb Load Cell for Spring, Cable, Actuator & Test-Stand Force Measurement
A 100 lb S-type load cell is useful when the application needs a compact inline force sensor with more sensitivity to low loads than a 500 lb, 1,000 lb or larger transducer. The MS-1-100 can be integrated into custom fixtures when its exact geometry and electrical interface are confirmed.
Spring Force Testing
Use a guided fixture so the spring applies force axially to the S-beam. Measure force at defined compression/extension positions and repeat the same positions to compare parts. For spring-rate work, displacement measurement is just as important as force; the load cell measures force, not travel.
Cable and Small-Tension Testing
Inline cable tension fixtures can use an S-beam when both ends are properly connected and the load path stays straight. Avoid wrapping cable directly around the load cell body. Use rated eye bolts, clevises or rod-end hardware sized for the fixture and anticipated force.
Actuator and Clamp Force
Small electric/pneumatic actuators, clamps and mechanisms often operate below 100 lb, making this capacity useful for production checks and design validation. Use mechanical stops to protect the load cell from accidental overload and make sure off-axis actuator movement cannot bend the S-beam.
OEM Test Stands
For OEM equipment, document the exact sensor output, excitation, wiring, connector, mounting dimensions and calibration method in the machine drawing/BOM. This makes future MS-1-100 replacement easier and prevents a mechanically similar but electrically incompatible sensor from being installed.
Capacity Margin
Choose enough capacity for normal peaks and expected fixture loads without grossly oversizing the sensor. If the test can exceed 100 lb during jams, impacts or breakaway events, use physical overload protection or select a higher-capacity load cell. Never depend only on software limits to protect the sensor.
