A 5,000 lb capacity label is not enough to prove one S-type load cell can directly replace another. The MS-1-SSH replacement decision should cover mechanical fit, electrical match, application direction, environmental needs and—when used commercially—approval status.
Seven items to compare before ordering
Capacity and application load case: both sensors may say 5,000 lb, but shock and overload requirements still matter.
Overall geometry: body height, width and centerline must fit the existing assembly.
Thread size and thread depth at both ends.
Rated output in mV/V and the indicator’s calibration/configuration range.
Bridge/input/output resistance and excitation compatibility.
Cable length, conductor count, shielding, connector and polarity.
NTEP certificate/application details when the scale is used for commercial transactions.
Do not assume a related MS-1 capacity is electrically identical
Related MS-1 stainless models are useful for understanding the family, but the safest replacement practice is to use the exact 5,000 lb MS-1-SSH label or certificate for electrical and dimensional values. This avoids turning a family-level specification into an unsupported exact-model claim.
What to do after the physical swap
Inspect the load path for binding before applying power or load.
Verify excitation and signal wiring before connecting the indicator.
Check that unloaded output is stable and changes smoothly with a small test load.
Perform zero/span calibration and multi-point verification.
For commercial scales, complete any required sealing, documentation or weights-and-measures process.

Can I splice the old cable onto the new sensor? Splicing can be technically possible but can affect resistance, shielding, environmental sealing and metrological performance. Follow the load-cell and indicator manufacturer guidance.
Does the connector pinout always match wire color? No. Verify function/pinout rather than assuming colors or connector positions are universal.
Should I replace load hardware at the same time? Inspect rod ends, shackles, bolts and adapters for wear, deformation or corrosion; load-cell replacement is a good time to correct mechanical problems.
