IDS-672-10K for Hydraulic Press, Bearing & Fixture Force Testing
A 10,000 lb low-profile pancake load cell can fit force-measurement jobs where vertical space is tight and the fixture can apply centered force through a rigid interface. The IDS-672-10K is sold as a bare sensor, so the engineer or technician chooses the indicator/amplifier, fixture and data method for the application.
Hydraulic press force measurement
A load cell placed in a properly engineered press fixture can measure actual force at the measurement point rather than inferring force only from hydraulic pressure. The fixture must distribute load evenly onto the sensor and protect it from side loading. Confirm peak press force cannot exceed the sensor or fixture rating.
Bearing, preload and press-fit tests
Bearing seating, preload, insertion and press-fit work often benefit from simultaneous force and displacement measurement. The IDS-672-10K supplies the force channel; travel must be measured separately with the machine encoder, LVDT, caliper or another displacement sensor. Force-versus-travel data can reveal seating events or process changes that a final peak-force number alone may miss.
Clamp and fixture validation
The sensor can be used to validate clamp force, compression tooling or reaction loads when the geometry transfers force through the intended axis. If the applied load is off-center, the reading may include bending effects. Build fixture guidance and hard stops so operators cannot easily side-load or overload the sensor.
Measurement system considerations
Use instrumentation that supports the exact sensor signal/excitation requirements.
Choose a sampling rate appropriate to static, slow process, or faster peak-force measurement.
Use overload protection or mechanical stops when the process can exceed 10,000 lb.
Calibrate in the real fixture and verify after any tooling change that affects load distribution.

FAQ
Does a pancake load cell measure hydraulic pressure? No. It measures mechanical force applied to the sensor. Pressure can be measured separately and compared if useful.
Can I put the sensor directly under any press ram? Only if the loading interface is mechanically appropriate and safe. Use properly designed platens/adapters rather than uncontrolled point loading.
Can it measure spring rate? It can measure spring force; displacement must be measured independently to calculate force change per unit travel.
