The MNM Scales 4,000 lb NTEP shear beam calibration process depends on how the sensor is installed. In a single-cell system, indicator zero and span may be enough. In a four-cell floor or platform scale, the load cells must first agree with each other at the corners, then the complete platform is zeroed and span-calibrated.
Step 1: Mechanical Inspection and Corner Test
Make sure the platform is level, feet are seated, nothing touches walls or ramps, and every cell can flex normally. Place the same known test weight near each load point and record the reading. A recognized corner-adjustment approach is to identify the lowest-reading corner and trim the higher channels in the junction box toward that reference. Use a meaningful test weight—many floor-scale procedures use at least about 10% of system capacity for corner checks when practical.
Step 2: Junction Box Corner Trim
Adjust only one channel at a time and recheck all corners after each meaningful change. Corner trimming is iterative because changing one channel affects the summed output. The goal is not to make one corner perfect in isolation; the goal is to make the entire platform respond similarly regardless of where the same load is placed.
Step 3: Zero and Span the Complete Scale
After corner balance is acceptable, unload the platform and perform indicator zero calibration. Then place known certified test weights on the platform, enter that value during span calibration and save. Verify multiple points across the working range and repeat the corner test. If the scale is commercial/NTEP, follow the applicable service and weights-and-measures requirements for testing and sealing.
