The MNM Scales MS-1-500 500 lb S-type load cell is an alloy-steel tension/compression transducer designed for inline force measurement, hanging-scale builds, spring and actuator test stands, OEM weighing systems and replacement applications. Its published 3.00 mV/V output and standard four-wire bridge make it straightforward to pair with many compatible industrial indicators and signal conditioners.

MS-1-500 Technical Specifications

MNM publishes a rated output of 3.00 ± 0.01 mV/V, nonlinearity of ±0.02% full scale, hysteresis of ±0.02% full scale, repeatability of ±0.01% full scale and 30-minute creep of ±0.02% full scale. Zero balance is ±1.00% full scale. Input resistance is 385 ± 15 ohms, output resistance is 350 ± 5 ohms, insulation resistance is at least 5000 megaohms and excitation is specified at 10 V DC/AC.

Temperature effect on zero and output are each specified at ±0.02% full scale per 10°C. The compensated range is -10°C to 50°C and operating range is -20°C to 60°C. Published safe overload is 120% of full scale. The attached cable is 20 feet long.

MS-1-500 Wiring Color Code

The MNM wiring code is red = excitation/input positive, black = excitation/input negative, green = signal/output positive and white = signal/output negative. When replacing a different brand of load cell, match electrical function—not just wire color—because manufacturers do not all use the same colors. After wiring, verify the displayed force increases in the expected direction; if polarity is reversed, correct the signal connection according to the indicator documentation.

What 3 mV/V Means

At rated capacity, a 3 mV/V load cell produces approximately 3 millivolts of differential signal for every volt of excitation. With 10 V excitation, that corresponds to roughly 30 mV at full rated load under ideal nominal conditions. The weighing indicator amplifies and digitizes this small bridge signal, then converts it into pounds, kilograms or force units after calibration.

Best Uses for a 500 lb S-Beam

A 500 lb range works well for medium-duty spring tests, actuator thrust, clamp force, cable tension, hanging scales, pull-force fixtures, insertion/extraction studies and custom production checks. Because an S-beam measures both tension and compression, one sensor can serve push and pull tests when the fixture keeps force centered through its primary axis.
