A&D FC-5000Si fine mode supports a 0.0005 g minimum calculated average unit weight, normal mode supports 0.01 g, and direct weighing readability is 0.2 g. The scale’s SHS sensor and high internal counting resolution make those calculations possible, but real count accuracy still depends on sample mass, part uniformity, stable mechanics and verified ordinary weighing.
5 kg external calibration
MNM specifies a 5 kg reference for calibration. Level the scale, stabilize temperature, use an appropriate calibrated mass and then verify with another known load. If direct weight is correct but count is not, do not keep recalibrating: rebuild unit weight, increase sample size, check static/mixed parts and confirm the correct item memory is active.
Choosing normal versus fine mode
Use normal mode when part mass allows because more total signal generally produces a more robust count. Use fine mode for lighter pieces, but compensate with a larger sample. Near the minimum threshold, unit-to-unit manufacturing tolerance can contribute more error than scale electronics. Validate the specific product instead of relying only on the published threshold.
RS-232C and interface choices
RS-232C is standard, FC-03i adds two channels, and FC-04i adds a serial channel plus comparator relay; FC-03i/FC-04i are mutually exclusive. A&D also supports Ethernet, Quick USB and Bluetooth converters through the serial interface. Test count, item ID and units through the complete electronic path before integrating records with ERP or inventory software.
Remote-scale integration
FC-05i connects an external scale. This is particularly valuable with FC-5000Si because the Si local platform can establish a sensitive average unit weight, then a higher-capacity remote base can hold the production lot. Verify scale switching and use a known count to confirm the remote base provides enough resolution for the selected part.
