A&D GC-3K is a 3 kg / 6 lb smart counting scale built for inventory, kitting, receiving and production environments that need more item-management capability than a basic parts counter. Direct weighing readability is 0.5 g (0.001 lb in the MNM U.S. listing), while the current A&D table lists 0.1 g normal and 0.005 g fine-mode minimum unit weights for piece counting. Fine unit weight is a counting calculation threshold, not 0.005 g direct scale readability.

AIS and ACAI solve different counting problems
Automatic Item Search (AIS) helps locate an existing unit weight quickly, while Automatic Counting Accuracy Improvement (ACAI) refines the average unit weight as more known pieces are added. AIS reduces setup time for recurring parts; ACAI reduces sampling error. For very light or variable pieces, use a larger initial sample, let ACAI refine the average, and verify a known hand-counted quantity before making a high-value inventory adjustment.
1,000-item memory plus MicroSD expansion
GC stores data for up to 1,000 items internally and can extend memory using a MicroSD card. Item data can include unit weight, item code, tare and comparator limits. This is a major advantage for warehouses with many SKUs. Treat stored unit weight as controlled master data: when supplier, plating, material, moisture or manufacturing tolerance changes, verify the stored value against the current lot instead of assuming historical piece weight is still valid.
Display and operator workflow
The GC uses three reverse-backlit LCD windows for count, weight and unit weight plus an OLED information display that guides settings. The display/keyboard can be separated from the weighing base, useful when a large container blocks the operator’s view. Password and key locks can limit unauthorized changes, while the comparator uses visible LED traffic lights and a buzzer for checkcounting or checkweighing.
WinCT-Counting, RS-232C and external scales
Standard RS-232C lets GC communicate with a PC, printer or another A&D balance/scale. WinCT-Counting manages item data and supports memory, command, function and UFC workflows. AD-8561 Multi-Interfaces add USB or terminal-block connectivity and can link the GC to a higher-resolution balance for tiny parts or a larger industrial base for bulk quantities. Validate both scales and the transfer workflow before relying on a dual-scale count.
Power and portable use
The scale can run from its AC adapter or from a USB power source/mobile battery, making it useful for cycle counting away from a fixed workstation. After moving the scale, place it on a stable level surface and verify zero plus a known weight before critical counts. Portable power does not eliminate normal weighing requirements such as stability, temperature control and appropriate sample containers.
Calibration and U.S. trade status
MNM lists external calibration for GC-3K. Use suitable known weights and verify independently after calibration. A&D’s current U.S. GC product page markets the GC family as industrial counting scales and does not identify GC-3K as an NTEP/legal-for-trade model. Use it for internal inventory, production and quantity control; use a specifically approved weighing device if a regulated commercial transaction is determined by weight.
Frequently asked questions
Capacity/readability? 3 kg × 0.5 g; MNM lists 6 lb × 0.001 lb. Normal/fine minimum unit weight? 0.1 g / 0.005 g. Does 0.005 g mean direct readability? No. How many internal items? 1,000. Can memory expand? Yes via MicroSD. Is RS-232C standard? Yes. Can it connect another balance or industrial base? Yes with supported A&D interfaces. Is it identified by A&D U.S. as NTEP? No.
