A four-cell scale using MNM 1,000 lb stainless shear beams should be corner-balanced before final span calibration. That order matters because each load cell and mounting corner can respond slightly differently. Corner trim makes the platform behave as one weighing system; indicator span then converts the summed signal into the correct displayed weight.
Mechanical Inspection
Level the frame, make sure all four feet carry load, verify spacers are consistent and check that nothing touches or restrains the deck. In wet or food-production areas, also inspect for debris buildup or hardened residue around feet and gaps that can create false corner loads.
Verify the Four-Wire Connections
MNM publishes red +excitation, black -excitation, green +signal and white -signal. Confirm each cell is wired identically into the summing box. If one corner reads backward or responds very differently, check polarity and bridge resistance before adjusting trim.
Corner Trim Procedure
Use the same test load at the same relative location near each corner. Record all four readings, then adjust the summing-box trim controls according to the junction-box design. Repeat until the corner readings converge. Make small changes and cycle all four corners after each round because trimming one channel can influence the combined result.

Zero, Span and Final Verification
After corner balance, empty the platform and establish zero. Apply a known load and follow the indicator's span-calibration procedure. Verify the center and all four corners afterward, then repeat at another load if practical. A stable zero plus consistent corners is often a better diagnostic than repeatedly changing span to chase one bad corner.
When One Corner Will Not Trim
Inspect that cell for physical damage, corrosion at the cable entry, wiring resistance, mounting stress and frame contact. Swap diagnostic positions only if the scale design allows safe service. A trim pot at the end of its range usually indicates a mechanical or electrical fault rather than a calibration problem.
