A&D EK-12Ki for bulk precious metals, commercial weighing and inventory gives buyers a compact 12 kg × 1 g NTEP Class II balance with standard data output and production functions. It is designed for heavier loads than most precision balances while preserving a one-gram division. That combination can fit bulk precious-material transactions, commercial packages, industrial components and inventory lots when the required legal/process tolerance is compatible with 1 g readability.

Bulk precious metals and high-value materials

Large gold, silver or other high-value material lots can exceed the capacity of fine jewelry balances. EK-12Ki expands the range to 12 kg while retaining Class II trade status. One gram is not fine enough for every precious-metal transaction, particularly small high-value pieces, so the application must be matched to the transaction rules and economic value per division. Use a finer certified balance when the legal or business tolerance requires it.

Commercial buying and selling by weight

A&D’s U.S. page lists EK-12Ki as NTEP Class II. For a direct transaction, the business should confirm the class/division is accepted for the commodity and state/local rules, then have the balance correctly placed into service and maintained. NTEP status is essential model qualification, but it does not replace local weights-and-measures implementation.

Industrial inventory and large components

For internal inventory, the 12 kg range accommodates larger fasteners, assemblies, parts bags and containers. ACAI counting works best on pieces weighing at least about 1 g and reasonably uniform in mass. Use a representative sample and validate a known count before adjusting inventory. For much lighter pieces, a finer counting scale will produce a more reliable average unit weight.

Packaging and production checks

Comparator limits can give an operator quick HI/OK/LO feedback for packages or components, while RS-232C can send the accepted weight to a PC or printer. If package declarations are legally regulated, define whether the EK-12Ki transaction/inspection result is the official compliance measurement or an internal check. The same hardware can serve both roles only when the procedure and approval requirements are satisfied.

Underhook for suspended or density work

Underhook support lets a lab or industrial user suspend a load beneath the balance for density/specific-gravity or awkward-shape measurement. Use properly rated fixtures and verify the system after installation. The 12 kg nominal balance capacity does not automatically mean every hook, wire or fixture can safely support 12 kg; the accessory system must be engineered for the actual load.

When EK-12Ki is too coarse or too small

Choose a finer NTEP Class II or III balance for smaller high-value transactions needing sub-gram legal divisions. Choose EK-6000i when 6 kg capacity is enough and Class III fits the application. Choose a larger platform or floor scale when gross loads exceed 12 kg or cannot sit safely on the compact 133 × 170 mm pan. Choose EK-6100i for non-trade 0.1 g process work up to 6 kg.

Frequently asked questions

Is EK-12Ki suitable for bulk precious metals? It can be when 12 kg capacity, 1 g division and the Class II trade configuration fit the transaction. Is it NTEP? Yes. Can it count large parts? Yes, with a 1 g minimum unit weight. Does it send data to a computer? Yes through RS-232C. Does it support underhook weighing? Yes. Is it suitable for tiny gemstones? Usually not; 1 g readability is too coarse. Is a larger platform better for big containers? Yes if the load does not fit safely on the compact pan.
