Ohaus Balances
Compare Ohaus balances for laboratory samples, everyday weighing and jewelry counters. The listed Scout, Pioneer and Adventurer models differ in capacity, displayed increment, calibration and connectivity. Use the guide below to choose between portable weighing, fine analytical measurements and heavier bench loads, then check the exact model and any required accessories.
Choose capacity and readability together
Start with the heaviest sample plus its container, then identify the smallest weight change your process needs to measure. Tare does not add capacity. Readability is the displayed increment, not a promise that every result is accurate to that amount. Small samples also require suitable repeatability and a stable weighing environment.
Scout portability or Pioneer analytical weighing?
The Ohaus Scout SPX622 provides 620 g capacity with 0.01 g readability and a 120 mm round pan. Its included AC adapter and optional four-AA-battery operation suit work that moves between benches. USB, RS-232 and other communication interfaces require optional accessories; do not assume a computer connection is included.
For much finer displayed increments, the Pioneer PX124/E analytical balance provides 120 g capacity with 0.1 mg readability, equivalent to 0.0001 g. It has a 90 mm pan, glass draftshield, USB and RS-232, and uses external calibration. The lower capacity includes your weighing vessel. Compare analytical balances when fine sample weighing matters more than carrying heavier containers.
Compare Adventurer capacity and calibration
The Adventurer AX2202 offers 2,200 g capacity with 0.01 g readability and automatic internal AutoCal calibration. The Adventurer AX8201/E increases capacity to 8,200 g but displays coarser 0.1 g increments and uses external calibration. Choose the AX2202 for finer increments within its load limit, or consider the AX8201/E when a heavier vessel or batch takes priority.
Both have a 175 by 195 mm pan, color touchscreen, USB host/device and RS-232 connections. Check that the container fits and that your software supports the required output. Neither of these exact Adventurer models is listed by Ohaus as legal for trade.
Jewelry sales need the right approved model
The Scout SJX1502N/E is an NTEP Class II model with 1,500 g capacity. Its displayed increment is 0.01 g, while its certified increment is 0.1 g. Keep that distinction in mind when comparing jewelry scales; a fine display alone does not establish suitability for commercial transactions. Confirm the exact model, approved units and local installation requirements before buying for trade use.
Plan checks and accessories before ordering
For external calibration and routine performance checks, select calibration weights with the mass, class and documentation your procedure requires. Confirm compatibility rather than choosing by nominal weight alone.
