A&D FZ-120iWP wet lab balance applications are strongest where milligram readability is needed near routine splashes, dust or frequent wipe-down cleaning. The model’s current 122 g × 0.001 g specification and IP65 enclosure create a useful combination, but the environmental rating should be understood correctly: IP65 is water-jet protection, not immersion protection and not a license for aggressive pressure washing.
Food and ingredient R&D
Food-development labs may weigh flavors, colors, stabilizers and small ingredient additions in areas where bench cleanup is frequent. Internal calibration simplifies routine control without bringing an external mass onto a recently cleaned bench. Keep sample vessels dry on the outside before precision weighing, because water droplets become part of the measured mass and can defeat the purpose of milligram readability.
Chemical and industrial QC
In chemical and industrial QC, the protected enclosure can reduce concern about incidental splashes during cleanup. It does not make the balance chemically resistant to every solvent, acid or caustic cleaner. Follow material compatibility and manufacturer cleaning guidance. At 0.001 g, also control drafts, static and thermal gradients even when the housing itself is protected.
Cleaning without compromising measurement
Remove loose material before wiping, avoid forcing debris under the pan and allow the balance to dry and return to room conditions before precision work. After a significant cleaning event or relocation, run internal calibration and verify with a known external mass. If the station uses optional FXi-02, FXi-08 or FXi-09 hardware, remember that A&D states the configured unit no longer retains IP65 compliance.
