A&D GF-300P pharmacy balance is a 310 g capacity prescription balance with 0.001 g displayed readability, external calibration, a 128 × 128 mm weighing pan and pharmacy legal-for-trade status on A&D's current U.S. product page. It combines milligram display resolution with the counting, data and ruggedness features needed for repeat bench work.
The most important specification: d versus e
A&D specifies 0.001 g readability and the NTEP documentation identifies a 0.01 g verification scale interval for GF-300P. In other words, the display can show 1 mg changes, while the legal metrology interval used for approved trade performance is 10 mg. This distinction explains why the MNM listing title says 0.001 g while one specification row shows 0.01 g. Do not treat the 1 mg display digit as the legal trade division.
Core performance
A&D's current U.S. specifications list 310 g capacity, 0.001 g repeatability, ±0.003 g linearity and approximately one-second stabilization in fast mode. The 5.04 × 5.04 inch pan is large enough for common pharmacy containers while remaining compact enough for a prescription bench or laboratory workstation.
Legal-for-trade pharmacy use
A&D lists the GF-300P as Legal for Trade for pharmacy, and MNM identifies NTEP Certificate of Conformance 04-077. The NTEP documentation describes the GF-P series for general top-loading balance use, prescription weighing and prescription counting. An approved model still has to be installed, sealed, maintained and used according to the requirements that apply in the jurisdiction and application.
External calibration
GF models use external calibration. That means the balance is adjusted using an appropriate external mass rather than a built-in motorized calibration weight. For controlled work, use suitable certified weights, allow the balance to stabilize, protect the pan from drafts and vibration, and verify multiple points after any adjustment.
Counting with ACAI
Counting mode includes A&D's Automatic Counting Accuracy Improvement function. ACAI improves the stored average piece weight as additional pieces are added under the correct workflow. It is useful for tablets, capsules, small components and inventory pieces, but counting accuracy depends on unit-weight consistency and correct sampling.
IP54 and bench durability
A&D rates the GF-300P IP54. That is useful protection against normal dust and splash exposure around a working bench, but it is not a washdown rating. Clean spills promptly using methods compatible with the balance, and keep liquids away from connectors and openings.
RS-232C and data compliance
The balance includes RS-232C connectivity. A&D also documents GLP/GMP/ISO-oriented output, data memory and use with WinCT software and optional Quick USB hardware. For regulated or audited workflows, define what record fields are required and validate the complete data path rather than assuming that a serial connection by itself creates a compliant record.
Who should consider the GF-300P?
The strongest use cases are prescription weighing, pharmacy compounding support, pill or capsule counting, small-batch preparation, controlled inventory, research support and other work where 310 g capacity and milligram display readability are appropriate. It is not a substitute for a microbalance when the uncertainty requirement is below what a milligram balance can support.
GF-300P FAQ
Is the capacity 310 g or 320 g?
A&D's manufacturer specification is 310 g. The MNM product title contains 320 g, but its detailed table and A&D documentation identify 310 g, so 310 g is the safer model specification.
Is the readability 0.001 g or 0.01 g?
The displayed readability d is 0.001 g. The legal-for-trade verification interval e is 0.01 g. Both numbers are relevant but describe different things.
Does it have internal calibration?
No. The GF-300P uses external calibration.
Can it count pills or parts?
Yes. A&D lists counting with ACAI, but the process must use a representative sample and account for piece-weight variation.
Can it connect to a computer?
Yes. RS-232C is standard, with A&D software and optional USB-related accessories available for data transfer workflows.
Is IP54 the same as washdown?
No. IP54 provides limited dust and splash protection; it should not be treated like an IP68 washdown platform scale.
