A&D HW-100KC setup becomes much more useful when each function is tied to a real workflow: counting for uniform parts, comparator limits for pass/fail checks, accumulation for batch totals, auto-tare for repetitive container work, and interfaces for moving stable data into another system. Configure only the functions operators actually need and document the setup so a shift change does not turn the scale into a guessing exercise.

Start with Level, Zero and Warm-Up
A&D recommends a solid, level surface, a stable environment, and about 30 minutes of powered warm-up before important work. The platform should be clear of adjacent objects. Check zero before weighing and periodically confirm accuracy with known weights. These basics matter more than advanced menu settings if the scale is physically unstable.
Counting Mode
Counting requires a unit mass. Use enough sample pieces to average normal part-to-part variation, then confirm the calculated count with a known quantity. Light parts create a smaller signal per piece and are harder to count accurately. If a one-piece change is close to or smaller than the effective weighing noise, use a more sensitive counting scale rather than forcing the HW-100KC to perform outside the job’s needs.
Comparator Limits
Enter comparator limits from the process specification and test all expected states: below, acceptable, and above target. The multi-color display is especially useful when operators make frequent pass/fail decisions. If relay output is used to trigger external equipment, verify the electrical ratings and design the machine logic so a disconnected scale or invalid reading cannot create an unsafe automatic action.
Accumulation and Totaling
Accumulation stores repeated measurements so the scale can report the number of weighments and their total mass. Define a clear start/end procedure, especially in shared work areas. A forgotten previous total is an operational error, not a scale-accuracy error. If totals are business-critical, transmit or record them at job completion and then clear the accumulator under a documented procedure.
Auto-Tare and Take-Away Work
Auto-tare can reduce keystrokes when containers are repeatedly placed and removed. Take-away or negative comparison workflows can help when an operator starts with a bulk container and removes a target amount. Test the exact sequence with real containers because tare behavior, zero return, and comparator logic must match the process rather than merely look correct on an empty bench.
USB Interface
The HVW-02CB USB option can support PC data transfer. Before installation, decide whether the PC should receive every stable reading, readings triggered by a key, or a command-driven value. Build the receiving sheet or application so units and status are unambiguous. Test sleep, reconnect, power-cycle, and cable-disconnect conditions.
RS-232C for Industrial Systems
The HVW-03C RS-232C option is a better fit for legacy printers, terminals, PLC-adjacent systems, and software that expects serial communication. A&D documentation supports output and command-based interaction. Match baud/data settings and command format to the receiving device. When troubleshooting, verify cabling and communication configuration before changing weighing parameters.
Relay, Buzzer and Contact Input
The HVW-04C option extends comparator results to external signals and inputs. This can support lights, buzzers, or process logic. Treat it as an interface signal—not a safety-rated machine control unless the complete system is engineered and certified for that role. Test every comparator state and failure mode before production.
Bluetooth
A&D lists Bluetooth connectivity in the current family through an optional interface. It can simplify mobile workstations, but software compatibility, connection range, interference, and IT restrictions need to be checked before purchase. A wireless link solves cable routing; it does not by itself define the data workflow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can more than one interface be installed?
A&D’s HW/HV-C documentation supports multiple option units in the family, but slot and combination rules apply. Confirm the exact combination before ordering rather than assuming every option can coexist.
Does adding an interface change weighing accuracy?
A correctly installed interface should not be used to compensate for weighing error. Verify scale performance independently, then validate communications.
What is the best output trigger?
It depends on the process. Stable-only or operator-triggered output is often easier to audit than continuous streaming, while automation may require command or event-driven output.
